I was born at the exact same second as my creator, in a very normal hospital in a very normal American city. From that moment, I follow him everywhere he goes and whatever he does. No matter what time or weather, I am always there for him.
Yesterday, at school, he finally decided to tell a girl that he loves her. I am Jack's cold sweat. But her only answer was to laugh and tell everyone about it. I am Jack's broken heart. The entire class was making fun of him, pointing fingers at his face. So he ran into the classroom. I am Jack's inflamed sense of rejection. He was so irritated that he was shaking, about to throw up. I am Jack's raging bile duct.
So I talked to him: “It's your turn now, you have to do something. You can't just be passive till the end of your life. Act and be a grown-up!”. As usual, he didn't answer but he stood up, took the girl's bag, left school and arrived in an empty field. He violently threw the bag on the ground and set it on fire. On his face, I saw a big smile. I am Jack's smirking revenge.
Then he went back to school, as if nothing had happened. Even the teacher didn't ask him where he had been. At the end of the day, the girl realized her bag was missing but no one suspected him. Because, as everybody says, “Jack is a nice boy, you know”, “he's just a bit lonely and a little bit sad”.
That day I was proud of Jack. I told him but he didn't answer, as if he didn't see me and didn't even remember what he made. He always acts as if he doesn't see me, but in his unconscious, he knows that I exist.
I am Jack's sneaky friend. I'm here to wake him up, little by little, and raise in his mind a desire of rebellion. One day, when he will have his little life, in a little flat with a Swedish bed and a Swedish desk, and a boring job in a car insurance company, I will be there for him and he will understand my role. With me, he will learn to live for real, emancipated from social rules. At a very strange time in his life, I will be Jack's new future.
