YEAR 7 - I-LEARNING (WEEK 2)

Another I-Learning lesson saw teams create a chassis for a toy car. Learners received the merits if they were able to recreate each step exactly without any help from the teacher. Once this was completed, learners got to design their own Structures around it. To aid with this, an episode of "Wacky Races" was shown on the Whiteboard in the background. This inspired learners to create different types of vehicles and helped them design some creative responses.

To top it off, at the end of the lesson, Learners got to race their cars against each other - which hooked the learners and created an exciting end to the lesson!

YEAR 7 I-LEARNING (WEEK 1)

I-Learning is an initiative used within my 2nd Placement school which focuses on developing the school's own brand of skills, which all learners should acquire.

To help with this, I-Learning provides an opportunity for these skills to be gained. These skills are Creative Thinking, Teamwork and Independent Learning. Because of this, this type of lesson suits Design & Technology especially well. Each lesson, learners must work within teams to solve a particular problem. The catch is, they are not allowed to ask the teacher how to solve this problem, they must do it alone.

This particular lesson shows a task where learners had to construct paper folded animals by following instructions. For each one completed, the entire team got a rewarded with a Merit. Once they have completed all the animals, they had to imagine them as impressive structures, and design a zoo around it, using whatever materials they could get their hands on. The images show the varied and creative responses of these young learners.
