Emily looked at the dead rabbit in her hand. It was a scrawny little thing but it was certainly better than yet another day of canned food or cheap snacks. Too bad she had to waste so many bullets to earn her meal. She kept promising herself to stop firing up a gun until she’ll be learning to aim properly, but she had been desperate to taste some real food. This little thing at least will last her a day or two if she ate sparingly. Better than nothing…
The young woman shivered as the moist, cold air was starting to seep through her clothes. Time to head back home before I freeze to death, she mumbled to herself. These icy woods always gave her the chills anyways and it wasn’t just because of the biting cold. Emily always found the wilderness unsettling but this particular area of Silent Hill had it’s own way of creeping her out. She would have avoided it entirely if not for the prospect of procuring some fresh meat from time to time. She couldn’t exactly explain it, but the woman constantly felt like she was being watched out here and certainly not by friendly eyes. But wasn’t that the case with the town itself? Monsters were lurking around every corner; maybe because she was unfamiliar with these woods, her paranoia was particularly heightened.
Emily almost jumped out of her skin at the sudden sound of flapping wings. She took a deep breath to calm herself then proceeded to grumble with annoyance. Damned birds! Despite it, the woman still felt like there was something out there, lying in wait. Was it a bear? A lynx? She slowly turned her head around to look behind her. She saw nothing but still, the creepy feeling only got worse. Curiosity got the better of her – as always – and instead of leaving the area as quickly as possible, she lingered around, trying to find the source of her sudden anxiety. Again, she saw nothing out of the ordinary, so maybe she was just being paranoid.
The young woman inspected her catch again. It really was a scrawny little thing with barely any meat on its bones. Maybe she will be able to catch another, hopefully? And if anything dangerous was out there, she still had the shotgun with her. So despite her fear of the unknown and the cold, Emily continued to scour the forest for more game.
