Ohh, that post about sub!Mark just made me think of oMarkhelly in a whole new interesting way. They're "stuck" together for some reason, and decide that having sex is a good shot as any to make either iMark or Helena come back, because oMarkhelly are definitely driving one another crazy. Despite that, Mark trusts her enough to ask her to boss him around and Helly is like ??? because her sexual experience is limited and mostly iMark walked her through it and he didn't show her his sub side. Oh man--- this might be the hardest ask of all. You know how it is that the person who created something doesn't know how good something is?

It's the same thing with me.

I do think that I tend to write character voices well and in character. And I feel the biggest compliment for me would be if someone said that the characters sound like the characters we love.

Anti honesty hour: what's your favourite and most disliked TMA ships?

Well, my favourite would have to be J*nmartin! It's the backbone of the show and I honestly would not have gotten into TMA if not for it. It's such a pure love story of two characters that clearly belong together and bring out only the best in each other. Their chemistry is amazing and vibrant and it's so beautiful to see Martin's love redeem Jon, and I'm so happy the latter realised that he needed to follow Martin in the end. I really hope that after the finale they found a nice cabin Somewhere Else and got married and started a family. :)

My least favourite is Jonelias. It's so clearly geared towards straight people who want a gay ship to fetishize abuse it's not even funny. Even leaving aside that Elias is canonically straight and homophobic, what message is it sending? That being groomed and manipulated by your boss into ending the world is romantic? It's so messed up. Besides, they never had positive interactions; it's so clear Jon hated Elias from the start, and so should you.

6. how did writing change you?

the most notable thing is that it made me engage with media in a different way. like how you drive a car your whole life but it means something different when you've spent time tinkering with the inside of it. idk sometimes i can just shut my brain off and passively enjoy a book or tv show or movie etc., but 99% of the time there's a little robot in there feverishly taking notes on what writing choices i liked and what i liked about them and why they were effective. it's a different experience

49. writing advice

leave your house. take a long drive if you can. never visit a new town without visiting at least one coffee shop and at least one bar, and take in your surroundings when you do. engage in small talk. if you're terrible at small talk, bring along that one friend who isn't. remember those conversations. witness how multifaceted and varied people are. have a minor existential crisis over the fact that every single person in existence has a story as rich and filled up as your own and you'll only ever see a microscopic blip of any of it. read outside of your comfort zone. look up writing contests in literature magazines, pull up their archives, and read all the winning works for the past few years. try to imitate them, fail, and realize maybe you didn't actually fail and you're just your worst critic. go to a crowded park in the city on a nice day and write there. always, always, always remember that the reason so many writers tell you to "just write" on the first draft and not worry about quality is because it's genuinely wonderful advice, but it'll take you a while to get comfortable with it anyway. and lastly: pick up other hobbies, ideally something that gets you outside and around other people, because it'll widen the scope of your writing ideas, sure, but also because humans are social creatures and you'll drive yourself insane otherwise ✌

And ahhh yes! So that's part 5 of campervan, which tbh I am battling with at the moment, this one has definitely been the most difficult to write (but it hasn't been helped by the fact I've been so extremely busy over the summer with work...). But the title is from a Brazilian song of the same name by the band TOPAZ! I'm gonna have Gabriela recommend it to the Doctor at some point...
