sometimes i see people say “indigenous people” as if it’s a big homogeneous group with one core belief set like “oh well indigenous people believed that…” what all of them? all of the unbelievably large amount of different indigenous peoples from around the entire planet who all have wildly different histories and beliefs and stories? all of them? damn that’s crazy

has anyone ever written a fic where Samira stays in Pittsburg, but it was a last second decision so she can't renew her lease and Langdon and his wife are getting a divorce, so he and Samira end up renting a place together until Langdon finds a bigger place (bc of the kids ofc) and she figures how to move foward after the news from her mom.

They have loooots of character growth and bonding sessions over their whole Robby situation and find genuine friendship with each other.

Also, Abbott thinks they are together and is drowning in jealousy (internally, ofc, bc he thinks she could never want him back - she does - and will always put professionalism first) and Mel wants to be happy for them (she also thinks they are together) because Langdon deserves to be happy and Samira is great but she feels a tightness in the bottom of her stomach every time she thinks about it.

i have such a problem with "have to". i don't fucking "have to" anything ever. in social scenarios, "have to" is just a more adult way of saying "nuh-uh". "You have to come for christmas" no i don't, tf. "You have to have understanding for others" no i don't. what? they won't like me if i don't? ok so? i already don't like them. "You have to let them do this" says who, i say no. and in other scenarios, it's usually not even true, it's just something people say to make you do what they think is right because it makes them uncomfortable if you don't. "You have to eat before the trip", "You have to sleep more", "You have to go on vacation sometimes" i don't have to do shit. even in extreme scenarios, there is always an alternative. sure, if i don't show up to work, i might get fired. see, there is still an alternative. i can choose my preference, but i don't simply "have to". i'm in control here. even if i could die if i don't do something. i can also die, ok.

I think the main reason that the whole “benders are an oppressive class to non benders” thing that they try to do in every avatar media outside the original series fails is that besides never being done in an interesting way, ATLA is a universe where actual racism is like. A plot point. Like the original show doesn’t really dwell on it tooooo much but the fire nation is a colonizing empire, and when Aang pretends to be from the colonies he does get treated noticeably different for it. The cultural tensions between the northern and southern water tribes come to a direct head with Katara experiencing the culture shock of having Pakku refuse to train her (and then beating his ass for it). Like, actual real racism is a thing that is very present in ATLA and in a show like Korra, where showing the effects of being an avatar in a tenuously peaceful world is literally the whole point, you would think they might want to actually explore that instead of coming up with a weird pseudo-racism allegory that most of the time barely manages to say anything interesting.
