My landlord illegally evicted me and I need help covering legal fees and moving costs.

Hola, y’all. I super didn’t want to be here again, but I need your help.

When the pandemic caused my job site to shut down, I was able to work from home, but with no opportunity for overtime, my income was reduced by nearly 1/3rd. I had to cancel my car insurance and suspend my phone service. When I attempted to explain this difficulty meant I might need to wait for my stimulus check to pay rent for April, She accused me of “capitalizing on the pandemic”, “taking advantage”, and “making her look bad to the bank”. She refused to either accept delayed payment or to do anything at all to mitigate the problem on her end. (At the time, I had been the only renter in a 10 bedroom Airbnb house in *weeks*.)

On Friday, May 8th, after weeks of documented harassment, insults, threats, and turning off the wi-fi (preventing me from working from home and jeopardizing my job) my landlord somehow found my twitter and fabricated a claim of fear for her safety to the police and forced me to leave, abandoning the majority of my possessions in the single airbnb room I was renting in her basement.

The police said they couldn’t keep me from coming back but that I should call them to standby. I came back the next day and called them. She (the landlord) immediately began screaming at police and at me and did not stop the whole time I was there. I barely had time to grab clothes and my work laptop.

On Monday, May 11th, she texted me and demanded I have my stuff out by Friday, May 15th or she would take me to court. The soonest I could schedule movers was that friday, so again I went to the house with the police and she refused to allow me entry to pack or clean until the movers showed. The movers ended up getting stuck on another job, and the police hadn’t stuck around, so I left. The next day (Saturday, May 16th) she texts me to demand I have my stuff out by the next day (Sunday, May 17) or she will “break down the door and charge [me] for it before throwing my stuff into the street.”

By some miracle, I was able to speak to a lawyer’s assistant Saturday night, and sunday I went to the house with the police yet again (with whom she got into a shouting match) to ask her to agree not to touch my stuff until Monday.

TODAY, MONDAY MAY 18TH: The lawyer agreed to help, to the tune of $300/hr ($525 total). The Housing Court clerk told me to file a Statement of Fact form to open a case against the landlord.

I sent the form, and they called her to see if this could be resolved before taking it to a judge. She is maintaining her position that I cannot come into the house until the movers and police are there. I can’t afford to pay movers $150/hr in 15min increments to hang around while I clean and pack, nor can I afford to hire movers now, and then again when I find another place to live. If the case goes before a judge, I will have to pay $130 to open the case and an additional $90 if the judge makes a ruling, not to mention the possibility of more attorney costs.

Since Friday the 8th, I have had to pay:

$1250 for an airbnb

$510 for an emergency car repair

$300 for an ER visit for kidney stones woooo

$700+ dollars in legal fees.

I still need to pay movers which can cost up to $600 per trip, and move in costs for a new place, which can be up to $3000 or more.

I’m still working, thankfully. I get paid again the 29th, but I will still be far behind where I need to be to get a new place.

This has been a sickening, infuriating, exhausting, humiliating experience.

Since Landlords will attempt eviction regardless of whether it's legal or not, and since Civil Judges and Sheriff Department's are unlikely to bother making sure am eviction is Legal at your location before doing a Landlord's bidding, it falls on the Tenant to make sure their own Eviction is legal or not.

Also, many States or County and City Social Service Agencies offer free Legal Counciling for most Low-wage Tenants, so if you're being evicted, DO NOT HESITATE TO SEARCH ONLINE TO SEE WHAT YOUR STATE OFFERS IN LEGAL COUNCILING OR RENTAL ASSISTANCE.

The best tool a Tenant has in defense of her own housing is to be as fully aware of the Law, as well as the assistance in her area offered to renters in crises. Knowledge is in fact power. I myself have been threatened non-stop since the very first week of the Lockdown when I was immediately Laid Off. I have over and over again thoroughly humiliated my Slumlord as he and his goons refuse to do anything about multiple pest infestations even as they threaten Tenants in direct violation of the Law here in Louisiana where a Statewide Eviction Moratorium ha so been in effect since April.

Knowing my Rights bought me the time and space I needed to save up to move my ass out of that Rat and Roach infested den in the ghetto and into a nice house in a beautiful neighborhood in New Orleans' Garden District.

So please, heed my warnings, get updated on the Law and Assistance offered in your area, Lord knows the the Government isn't going to advertise what help they offer, you unfortunately must be your own Lawyer and your own Advocate.

You needed to pay the lowlife child abusers and arsonists, and you paid with our home. Fuck "your property". We were late on the rent only once, in all those years and I took care of the place and we tried to clean up the neighborhood from criminal property owners like Kyle and Nicole Ball, Brent Vitale and their criminal friends in Lee County: Vincent Berta.

It was our home, fuck you and "your property".

You know, Jared Kushner just explained the genocide in Gaza: "it's so we can build a resort on their graves".

To be a property owner in the US is to be a souless piece of murderous shit.

P.S.  I have to be at a meeting downtown on Tuesday at 10:30, so I plan to attend the County Commissioners meeting from 9 until I have to leave. If it's still ongoing after my meeting, I will come back in. If you haven't already done so, this would be a great place for you to voice your concerns about code enforcement. I'm going to look at the agenda to see if there's anything that I would like to weigh in on. Please come if you can. I'm sure they will be glad to see that the public is no longer sitting idly by,  but is actively engaged in bettering their community :-)

Lies

I did not keep the boys from returning home. No, not at all. That's a lie. The only person who would mouth such slander is either a drunk, a child abuser or someone trying to help their favorite child abuser feel a little better about themselves and the way they mistreat their children.

The only "keeping" done that day was those two boys keeping themselves the hell away from an angry cuckold.

Brent, Travis and Jennifer didn't prop you up because they love you and yours. They had a use for...you. Because they despise me, each and every one of them, and they knew you would use your kids so conveniently and neglectfully without regard to their welfare. This was an attempt by Jennifer and later all of you to help her and you appear as acting in self-righteous anger. She's a bum, you're a bum, you're liars and you abused your kids, like you always do and and Jennifer et al helped you do that.

Brent has threatened me for calling in a code enforcement violation, getting his friend Vincent a bit of notoriety with a letter to the newspaper and an up front in your face confrontation for Vince by the lady who ran for Sheriff.

Travis tried to cheat me out of money they owed me for a job that his minion Nicole, asked me to do, finally paying me and then claiming I owed him fines and fees adding up exactly to what he paid me. The Health Department got involved and I hammered and insulted him and Kyle for a year and Jennifer became outraged that anyone could so insult the fly by night outfit she worked for and Sir Moneybags, but then realizing that Travis, Kyle and Marshall Reddick are truly indefensible, she decided to feign moral justification by using someone's, anyone's children available...yours.

Mira is not a judge; she is a constituent in and of a crowd of rabble, the one in the gang easily talked into doing the dirt, because of her position, even though her position doesn't render her above reproach; she was the executioner, and a dirty team player without peer.

The eviction was illegal and still is.

Whatever arrangement they had with you lacked legality; you and they acted criminally.

The Cruelest Thing: Our Neighbors Sick Sadists

The invasion of our privacy, our backyard by children older and younger peering in our bedroom from the trees, screaming and yelling, their father setting off firecrackers and screaming obscenities daily for about a year took our home from Linda and myself long before we left. Imagine the cruelty it took by these sadists, old and young to amass this daily hate campaign upon an elderly couple simply because it was available and convenient to do so and they liked the offer from our landlord. What kind of reject would feel free to behave so inhumanely? These young thieves of home, of peace of mind, of security, these haters carried on this war of hate on Linda and myself as their friends at Marshall Reddick were arraigning our eviction. You can't imagine how horrible this was, watching Linda decline because our neighbors choose to be garbage and have their children behave as garbage. Linda and I were assaulted for about a year at our home before we lost our home and the Sheriff's Department made jokes about it.

Linda was in her 80's, her health was failing slowly, she was frail and the hatred and harassment aimed at us by this cruel family left Linda disoriented, stressed, frightened, and constantly worried. She died a few months after we were forced out of the property. I wonder if we hadn't been harassed by our sadistic neighbors if Linda might have survived. She might of made if not for that large does of hate levied upon her by our cruel and sadistic neighbors.

Linda shouldn't have died.

Someone else should have died.

Linda was a sweet, warm gentle soul. She was not a hater. She even helped Doug once when he was stuck and that while she was having trouble getting around. Linda made the world a better place to live in.

Someone else should have died.

The children, with Brent's, Jennifer and Travis's help made wicked abusers with their father orchestrated behavior. They made my and Linda's life a hell. The children were being taught to be abusive, to say to hell with their neighbors privacy and peace of mind and to be haters and more than likely these children will turn into the same kind of hateful lying cowards that their parents and grandparents are. Chances are low they will grow up to make this a better world to live in for anyone. Certainly not for Linda, Linda is dead, and those children had a small hand in it.

Let's Get One Thing Straight

Concerning the above, I must mention that you set this fire with children present not because you didn't know any better, but because you just didn't care, no concern at all that the smoke might be bad for young lungs, no skin off your ass. You did it blinded at the encouragement of Brent Vitale to harass, to hurt, to threaten others. Your intent was bad and your complete lack of any concern for your own children's safety made it easy to do.

I do imagine, yes I do, that in your, Brent's and your friends perverted mindset, that somehow your actions weren't your responsibility. They were. You and no one but you set the fires with you children in them and you did so to harass, hurt and threaten, with again no regard for a child's health. You own that like a child abuser that's proud to be one.

The County was aware of all this and the situation with myself and Marshall Reddick. Was it a plan, intent, the aim of the County to help a child abuser like you or did they 99% just want to help get rid of me and Linda (Linda and I are were a package deal). Likely, I'd bet they just wanted to get rid of us rather than be solely motivated to assist shit like you.

Imagine sitting at home with you family on a Sunday morning. Next thing you know you see two rcmp cars and the people you've been renting to own the house from come around the corner. You are paid two months ahead and have paid off $60,000 out of $190,000. When you open the door you are told you have 30 minutes to get out. There are no legal documents and the RCMP officer threatens to arrest you if you refuse to leave. You try to explain to the officer in a calm manner but she will just repeat it's civil, when it's not, and rcmp aren't suppose to interfere with civil manners regardless. As of 1 pm on Sunday your family with a 3 and 6 year old are now homeless.

This was our reality.
