i can't be silenced i love ooc fratt content they're so cute and domestic i feel like im gonna explode
have y'all seen those posts like "don't donate to Ao3, they host gross stuff, donate to wikipedia instead!!"
it's so funny bc their definition of yucky content is niche fanfiction. and also they're deliberately ignoring many pages of wikipedia. wikipedia's stance is to stay as neutral and nuanced as possible on every article bc it's meant to be an unbiased encyclopedia. which means neutral and scientific approaches to sex offenders and paraphiles for example. so like, they write about rehab and treatment, not random murder. which would be "gross and problematic" to the type of person who thinks yucky fanfiction is or should be a crime. wikipedia does not have "reblog to kill a rapist / reblog if you're not homophobic" engagement bait. it tries to stay neutral and so far, it's more or less achieved that. the English version at least is well-moderated... trying to ignore the mess that is every other language of wikipedia rn. if you speak languages besides English, feel free to do your part to fix that mess lol.
all the "gross content" I've read and bookmarked on Ao3 is similarly nuanced and complicated, bc that's what makes a good story. good writing isn't preachy about how abuse is bad, it's about what circumstances led the characters to that situation. I mean, preachiness can work in some sort of ironic narrative punishment way though... ok so frankly, good writing is not definable. but it's probably not shallow engagement bait.
both Ao3 and wikipedia are insanely important. and also some of the last few ad-free sites. we don't appreciate the adlessness enough!!
Blue lock obsession slowly worming its way back in my life but I fear past me and current me's interests are misaligned
really, when is the best time to be on ao3 if not 2 in the morning!!!
Fanfiction is great.
