That was so fun to read! Congrats on five years of Pine Lake. :D And thank god, I can finally rest easy knowing how many basements there are. (I think Middleground has, uh... like zero that I built and two in downtown lots.)
Thanks! Glad you can finally sleep at night without tossing and turning over that big question. :P I was really surprised at how few there were, considering basements are a very easy way to cram in extra space without having to deal with roofing and making extensions look nice, etc. Good to know I’m not an anomaly in the low numbers of basements category!
PS: Middleground’s been around a while too, eh? Peeked at your old posts and tumblr told me circa 4 years, but you were playing it before posting, yes?

Thanks. :) You’re on the right track with the bachelor challenge guess. It’s another question someone had than I just ran with but didn’t have time to add it in to the big post. All the pictures and most of the text are ready, so I’ll probably post it tonight.
Anya is the one I hope to take over as mayor. She’s definitely a lot more ruthless than Almeric, which may not make her necessarily better at the job, but I’m sure more entertaining. I’m waiting to see what happens to her in university before totally committing to that idea, though. I was pretty disappointed at how terrible at his job Almeric turned out to be. :P

I have one sim day as one year. And since University takes about forever compared to that I play five Semesters each season. It drives me nuts too, since I don't really enjoy playing Uni and some days/households just go on 2. speed exempt when something interesting happens. Additionally I sent teens to Uni when they are five days from growing up and steal them three days of adulthood when they have finished so they are equal with their pals that didn't go to uni
Yes, I think the 1 day = 1 year is the most intuitive RL equivalent. As long as you don’t think about the seasons lasting 5 years, 3-year pregnancies, and other in-game things that don’t quite add up. :P So I don’t even bother trying. For me, they’re not humans on earth...they’re Sims in a world with different rules. :)
Sorry, got sidetracked...ha ha. That’s a lot of university per season. Have you tried the college adjuster to skip ahead if you get bored? It has an option to put the final exam only 2 hrs away.
I like your idea of stealing some days from adulthood. I was always taking from teen days only, but then I found that made their teen stage way too short. Now I just add extra days to my non-uni teens, but I might try your idea next time I try to make uni fit with the main ‘hood....the ongoing quest! :P

Ooh, thank you! I didn’t like every change it offered, but I edited it a bit and it seems to be working fine. Most importantly, the hats are showing up in outerwear--yay!

The way to do it is to extract the resources from the game and then recategorize them (in SimPe). There is a tutorial on how to do this on MTS, and looking at an existing recategorizing package (by Phaenoh for example) will help too.
Thanks for the tips! It sounds a bit beyond my basic SimPE knowledge, but I’ll look up the tutorials for future reference. The mod HB linked above works for what I wanted this time, but I’m sure another time will come when I want something else recategorized...

Lucky Shack is probably my favourite community lot, seeing the sims playing cards all serious is so funny!
It’s such a great lot. Even vanilla it has a cool atmosphere and the perfect amount of stuff to do. A downtown masterpiece!

The struggle is so real! Especially when so many households are related so you have complications like blended families, siblings who all share the same name but live in three different households, families who I started using one tag for, but now I’m realizing a different tag would be way better...it never ends! D:

A lot of the solo portraits are great. I use them sometimes for family portraits, but often forget about them when it comes to taking pictures. Because let’s face it...using the photobooth is rarely a solo activity. ;)

Yeah the storytelling thing can be hard. I am slowly trying to sketch out my plan for when I'm back from my posting hiatus and wanna go down the storytelling path with my restarted Morlake BaCC, but holy crap... all the planning, the specific pics to take and other stuff is so much work! And I've really enjoyed the reminiscing posts. Cannot wait to see what's next for Pine Lake though. :)
Storytelling is way more difficult than it seems. I wish I had started with a plan, honestly, because most of my struggle right now is trying to work out where to go with all the vague hints I left myself (without having an end goal clearly in sight). The hardest part for me is having to keep those hints (So-and-so said X therefore Y cannot be true in this situation, even though Y would otherwise fit perfectly!) and still fit everything together. There’s a lot to be said for completing a draft *before* publishing!
I’m really looking forward to seeing the resurgence of Morlake too! Whether it’s all plotted out or not, it will be fun to catch up with the settlers again. :) Are you planning on restarting from the very beginning, or picking up where you left off?

I feel the same! It’s a small regret of mine that I didn’t start with university student townies from the very beginning (just didn’t think of it!) but Eowyn wound up being pretty darn awesome, so I’m glad I got to meet her through it. :)

I've always found it best to just leave them alone when that happens. Sooner or later somebody grows them up.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had a baby refuse to grow up, so I completely forgot about that. I was also pretty impatient to have him grow up because it was the end of the round (before I decided to add some time to visit the school) and I wanted to know what he would look like!

Sometimes babies refuse to grow up. Usually it’s because one or more motives is too low, but because they’re babies, you can’t check. It took so many tries to grow him up that it wore down poor Leif’s sun meter, so he passed out on the sidewalk...and took the stubborn baby with him. It was super annoying, but also kind of funny.

The space between roads is a bit tricky to figure out at first since it's pretty different than in Sims 2, but from memory, the roads need to be right next to each other for 1x1 lots to fit in Sims 2 and if they have 1 space between them, then it becomes 3x1 (or the other way around) I THINK. You gotta experiment with it. :D
Experimenting is the plan!

Yeah I always take my pictures in options menu. The fish and snow stay visible already, but I know that owned businesses will show as being fully restocked that way, so if my businesses look well run, that’s why :p

Hello! I take my pictures without the queue by going to the “options” menu and then hitting tab for free camera mode :)
Options does seem the better choice: no gridlines, yes snow, and of course no queue. And I’ll usually use that for businesses too, thanks for the reminder. I just have used buy mode + ceiling view to avoid crashing for so long I don’t even think of breaking the habit anymore.

Gosh, I really love their kitchen. I never think of using posters like that in kitchens, but it looks really good below the cabinets!
Ha ha, the poster mostly went there because it was carried over from their old place which had more wall space in the kitchen, and under the cabinets was the only place it would fit here. But I thought it worked. Thank you for the compliment too. :)

I wish I had! He didn’t look great in that position once zoomed out (too hard to line up the faces), but he might have worked off to the side. Especially great if he could have been in some dancing or scaring pose too...but I was quickly losing patience with that photoshoot. :P

Io!! Poor thing...though it makes her quite entertaining (to me), so maybe not so bad? I hear you on the hospital mod too. It sounds cool, but also big, and would take some time to figure out. It's on my radar, so if I ever get around to testing it out, I'll let you know! By the way, even if it's not "fully functional" your hospital lot looks great! :)
I felt sorry for poor Io, but it made her round a bit funny :D It’s not always the most exciting to play just one sim. Yesyes, that mod is so big. I’m always reluctant to put these kind of mods into my game... It would be interesting to see how it operates for others (because I haven’t seen anyone use that mod yet as I recall?) And thank you <3
