Medical side of Tumblr! I need your help!
Do you ever think about the fact that most of what we think of as symptoms of illness; basic cold and flu symptoms; coughing, sneezing, runny nose, fever, puking;
None of those are directly caused by the bacteria/virus. Those are all part of the immune response.
I don’t doubt that we need the immune response. But I am curious what the illness would cause on its own without being masked/mitigated by said immune response.
Mostly because I was thinking about “humans are space orcs” stuff. And I remembered one story that claimed the alien immune systems weren’t nearly as aggressive as the human one, yet had those aliens experiencing the same symptoms that a human would if they had a really bad cold/flu. And I was thinking about how that doesn’t make sense because those symptoms ARE the immune system at work. But I don’t know how to correct it because I don’t know what the symptoms WOULD look like with a different immune system 🤷🏼♀️.
Someone who knows about/enjoys researching medicine and the immune system, HELP!
