Apparently Tumblr deleted my Snart -I'm only mad coz he looked like a ken doll- so... Drabble, anyone?
Severus leaned forward and touched the foggy mirror with his gloved hand. The red smear he’d applied on his lips was the first thing that stood out. So unusual because his sallow cheeks or hawk-nose would be the first on most days. He'd been reminded quite a bit of his shortcomings if his memory serves him right.
Sighing, he straightened to his full height and turned in a circle, looking at the gorgeous green silk shift and dance with his every movement. He looked good (was that even possible?). Smiling at that thought, Severus turned and reached for the door handle. He had no reason to dawdle any longer when he had a job.
The door slid open and Severus’ face popped from the slit. Still somewhat nervous, he looked around before stepping out.
Remus was holding three coffee cups and he was sipping from one of them. Dropping the other two into his companion's hands, he sighed in exasperation at how long it was taking Snape. He'd left about an hour ago, and Snape still hadn't gotten ready.
Kingsley looked up and nodded at Remus with a small smile. He shifted in his armchair to keep the other cup on the coffee table and prepared to go back down to his paper when he paused and his eyes widened in shock. And appreciation, Remus' heightened senses informed him. He internally groaned at the unnecessary information.
Almost expecting it to be Sirius, Remus turned around with a tired grin. He blinked once, and blinked a second time. Snape stood there in a green dress and thigh-high black boots. His eyes glittered as he looked around the small room, finding someone. Finally, he found whom he was looking for and his blood-red lips smiled.
Remus' grip on his cup loosened, and scalding hot coffee fell all over his front. He gave a small grunt but kept staring at Snape. Only when Snape moved past him did Remus realise what a mess he'd made.
A silent cleaning spell later, Remus turned around to watch Snape and Kingsley standing beside each other. Of course, he'd clean up nicely, Remus thought. The men looked like they would steal everyone's hearts the second they stepped foot in a room. Remus blushed when Kingsley caught him staring and the Head Auror smirked.
Coughing to cover his blush, Remus turned away. He heard another door open from behind Kingsley and hoped someone would take away the attention from him.
"I don't understand why I have to-"
Involuntarily, Remus' senses told him that Sirius felt something far thicker than appreciation for Snape. His mouth open and tie only half made, anyone who cared to look down would see the evidence to what Remus already knew. Shaking his head at the display, Remus walked around the others to reach Sirius.
He still hasn't noticed me.
Yanking at the tie and tugging at it excessively, Remus brought Sirius' attention to himself. Finally having Sirius' eyes glare at him, Remus whispered, "You have an important job tonight. In fact, it's the first time you have one since The Battle of Hogwarts. I hope he's not too much of a distraction for you to protect them effectively." Satisfied with his work, Remus smiled at the tie and tapped Sirius' chest. "Don't. Screw. Up."
Sirius nodded and accioed the bowl of Floo Powder and gestured towards the fireplace. Everyone got the signal. Remus gave his last speech for the day, and went through the itinerary again "Just to be sure." Finally, thank Merlin, Kingsley was satisfied with the prep and he stopped Remus' nervous ramblings.
Still standing beside the fireplace, he watched Kingsley throw the powder and step through. As Severus' long fingers pinched some of the powder, Sirius grabbed his arm and mumbled, "All the best, Snape- ugh," Sirius gave an awkward laugh, "Shacklebolt."
He looked into Sirius' eyes and smiled, nodding his thanks.
His heart aching, he followed after the Prince, because when has Severus not been a distraction?
