Something particularly enjoyable about FMA 03 as a shounen type anime or really generally a show for like 11-14 year olds, is that the protagonists aren't out to save the world or protect their people. Their goals are so much more narrow and selfish and really would have been super compelling if Ed and Al could go a bit longer at a time without being insufferable ahahaha. The show is good when that part of it is compelling. They're just, trying to make their lives livable. For Al, okay yeah, it tracks to just try and make his life livable, but Ed could have a totally normal and full life without reaching his goals, but he can't because he can't led Al down. But yeah. Mostly the thing about them really not doing it for heroic reasons and flirting so often with becoming monsters to reach their goals. Good shit.
