Designer's Notes: The Incanter's Grimoire Some designer's notes from my Pyramid Article "The Incanter's Grimoire." #GURPS #RPGs #Tabletop #RoleplayingGames
We always write the perfect book after the book is published. Seriously. I wish I’d had more space in GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 19: Incantation Magic and the insight to add to the main book then instead of writing this article later. I’m grateful the article was published and some of the questions I’d been asked could be answered, I just wish I’d thought to ask those questions of myself in the first…

The other kinda monk. Continuing on the theme of Ritual Path Magic and monks, my player also has Path of Mind . So, I decided to try to...
Here's a few more simple RPM/Incantation magic spells compared side by side.
To Call Like-Minded Friends
** Inspired by @bewitchedbynight **
You will need:Â
A waxing moon
A sheet of paper you don’t mind burning
A small white, orange, or brown candle
A wearable piece of quartz
Jasmine (candle, incense, flower, tea, doesn’t matter)Â
Lavender
Rosemary
Basil and Apple (optional -- make sure it’s edible)
Willow fronds or wood (optional)
To prepare:Â
Draw a large spiral on your burnable paper. Put your full name in the center, or a sigil you feel represents you. Write the desired traits of the like-minded friend(s) you are trying to draw along the spiral, winding toward your name.Â
Dress your candle with rosemary and lavender.Â
If you are prone to making alters for spell work, cut up some apple and spread fresh basil leaves around. Line the alter with willow fronds.
To cast:Â
Find somewhere quiet outdoors, with a good view of the waxing moon. Set the wearable quartz before the candle, and the spiral before the quartz. Light the candle, get your jasmine going (light it if it’s a candle or incense, rub petals on your pulse points and forehead if it’s a flower, drink up if it’s tea, etc).Â
Burn the spiral when after incanting “I give them to fire.” Hold the burning paper as long as possible.Â
Incantation:Â
(Repeat first stanza three or more times, move on when ready)Â
I call upon my kindredÂ
Listen to my voice
The earth and moon shall draw us near
And make it clear our choice
My thoughts I have listed
On who you may be
I give them to fireÂ
And call you to me
I ask for the air
To carry my voice
I ask for the earthÂ
To steady our choice
I call to my kindred
Come to my side
Our lives to entangleÂ
As life we abide.Â
This is my will
And so shall it be
Harm unto none,Â
And none unto me.Â
Spend some time in the moonlight running your quartz through your hands and charging it. If you dressed an altar with basil and apple, or just have some around, eat them.Â
When ready to move indoors, gather up any ashes remaining from the burned paper, and blow them toward the moon.Â
Take the candle with you if it hasn’t burned down, and leave the quartz in front of the candle until it’s extinguished.
Wear your quartz when around new people.Â
