It’s not everyone who can make an inanimate object like a silver knife as suggestive and meaningful as SHAED. The Washington, D.C. electro-pop trio, who’s gearing up for the release of their new EP Melt on July 27th, have just closed out national tours with the likes of Marian Hill, Bishop Briggs, X Ambassadors, Jacob Banks, and more. And now, they’ve presented us with a delicately snappy, fanciful sparkling song named Silver Knife that alludes to the object’s sharp edges and destructive potential. “Standing over you, look what you made me do,” sings Chelsea Lee on the chiffon grooving track with an unhinged undertone. Silver Knife is more like a double edged sword. Sweet and succulent, yet macabre and twisted. Just like how romance often is. Stream the single on Spotify, here.

I do hope Preoccupations can forgive us for missing their show at the Rickshaw Stop last month. We’re die hard Warriors fans, and their return to our favorite intimate San Francisco music venue happened to coincide with the playoffs. As much as we love their angular noise rock and mathy post-punk (which was amazing the first time they played Rickshaw Stop a few years ago), and as much as we’re glued to the Canadian band’s latest album New Material, we had to hold out hope that Preoccupations would return to San Francisco again soon. In the meantime, we can all get a taste of their absorbing live presence via the new music video Preoccupations has put out for their song Decompose, whose trilling riffs and uptempo vibrancy even exudes some psychedelic Madchester dance vibes. Decompose is but one of many brilliant new tunes off the band’s latest full length, out now on Jagjaguwar and available, here. Don’t make the same mistake we did if you get a chance to catch Preoccupations live. Go out and lose yourself in their gnarled, vociferous post-punk, easily one of my favorite genres for all eternity.

Makin’ Waves seems rather an appropriate song title for the first track we’re featuring from FEVA. The English lads received widespread praise following the release of their blistering first single, Blind, late last year. It’s certain that they’re making plenty of waves with their fiercely infectious riffs and raw garage rock now that they’ve returned with their second release, a tenacious stomping, rowdy charged anthem that will no doubt earn them even more accolades.  The band states: “Makin’ Waves is somewhat of an ode to the free spirit, making your own decisions and making your own waves in life regardless of what is considered the norm. It’s an uplifting feel good track and what better time to release with summer not (too) far away”. The new single is out now on all major platforms. If you’re up for some chills and some goosebumps (in a pleasant way, of course), I highly recommend you dive into this new Manchester Orchestra track, stat! The band from Georgia gave me one of my favorite alt rock albums of 2017 in A Black Mile to the Surface, and now they’ve presented us with an exquisite The Avett Brothers cover, too. Melt into tenderly heart tugging No Hard Feelings, of which Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull explains:  “Rob and I became obsessed with this song last year. It is truly one of the best songs that I’ve ever heard and it got to a point where I was listening to it repeatedly for several months straight. Simultaneously analyzing these layered lyrics while being emotionally floored at its weight and conclusion. I think the only way we could exercise the song’s grasp on us was to attempt a cover. We hope you enjoy.”  Manchester Orchestra -- Andy Hull, Robert McDowell, Tim Very, and Andy Prince -- will hit the festival circuit this summer, beginning with the Shaky Knees Music Festival on May 5th. The band is also confirmed to perform at Hangout Music Festival, Boston Calling Music Festival, Bottlerock, Bunbury Festival, Governor's Ball Music Festival, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Lollapalooza, and more. When we featured Intertwine’s We Are Fools For Singing This Song a few years ago, the Norwegian project consisted of one man, Tarjei Ekelund. Fast forward to 2018, and Intertwine is now a three-piece indietronica band, featuring Aleksander Berg and Ruben Nesse alongside Ekelund. New single Tokyo is their first release since debut album Goraikoo in 2015, and it’s a beautifully expansive, prismatic whirling song that marks a shift from the more mellow and morose sound of Goraikoo. We embark on a sky scraping flight, riding on the fluttering canopy of this dreamy billowing indietronica song, which pairs M83′s sweeping soundscapes with a dash of Tycho’s ambient chillwave resplendence and some of The Naked And Famous’ more atmospheric synthpop songs. Tarjei recorded the first draft of Tokyo while studying architecture in the famed capital. He captures the feeling of being infinitely small in a huge, bustling neon city on the track. We find ourselves blissfully languishing in Tokyo’s bittersweet melancholy while reveling in its warm, soothing comfort, all at once. We too, are specks of dust in a wondrous, widescreen world. We appreciate the vastness of its beauty and wonder about our own importance. In the end, we are all cogs in a great wheel, and we take much inspiration from that thought as we search for harmony and connection besides Intertwine. Tokyo’s accompanying video is an entrancing tessellation of patterns and cityscapes that mirrors the song’s thought-provoking, breathtaking introspection. Tokyo is the first single from Intertwine’s forthcoming EP.
