I've seen a lot of things wrong with tumblr feminists. But I've also seen a lot of right. I identify with the people who want to fix gender inequality, even the things that I know other feminists shy away from.
Some of those topics include, but are not limited to:
The Draft system (preferably ending it but adding woman to it if an end can not be made)
The expectation that men pay for dates (I have a belief that whoever asks should pay but that's just me. Since I don't have income, I usually cook)
Ending the idea that men are not good fathers/care givers or that they are in some way inferior to women
The end to unecessarily gendered items (what the hell is a men's Qtip? or men's toothpaste?)
Inequality in divorce and custody hearings (men are actually more likely to get full custody if they ask, but most don't know this, so even it out, more situational, etc)
Now, if I believe in full equality, no benefits or privileges for either gender, why do I call myself a feminist?
That is simple. It is because I consider these tasks a continuation of the feminist movement. That it has grown and evolved. I keep the title of feminist out of respect for the original feminists, I keep it as a reminder of where we have come from and an inspirations. I keep the title to keep myself humble and to remind myself that it isn't about me. I don't want my name in the draft system. But neither do my brothers. I don't want their names in there. But if the draft system must exist, then why should my brothers be put in and not me? Is my life worth more than theirs? No. It isn't. Period, the end.
So why am I talking about this?
Because I cannot sit around and complain about inaccuracies and injustices within the feminist movement and not do anything about it. So, from now on, I will try to post at least one thing a week discussing my thoughts and ideas in feminism. I will leave them completely open to comments and discussions. In fact, I encourage it. I want to hear other people's ideas. I want to find the problems, get the facts, talk to people who have experienced or are experiencing the problems and find a way to work for the better of our society. I can't do it all by myself.
With that in mind, I would like to ask my fellow citizens of the world for help in this task. What have you experienced? What are your ideas? Do you hate feminism? Do you love it? What is your definition? What have you had to work against, if anything? What questions do you have? Concerns?
