Now that’s it’s been a few hours and I’ve had more time I want to talk about this line for a second. A lot gets talked about this finale and rightfully so but this line was a ‘Holy Shit Owen actually went and said that’ moment for me personally.
Throughout the season I had been noticing Simon had been slowly slipping. And the further we got along the less mentally stable it felt like he was getting. So him going almost completely down the rabbit hole during the finale wasn’t a surprise for me. I bring this all up because of my point here.
This line hit home because of all that. I can’t remember the number of stories of people being hurt etc because of trying to help someone with mental illness. You can only help so much someone like Simon if they won’t help themselves. And blaming others for their mistakes or problems like he was is clearly not even starting to acknowledge there’s a problem let alone help themselves.
What’s really important here is Graces response though. Refusal to take the blame for all of Simons problems. Yes arguably she might have a had in some of it. But his response is all his own. The proper/better response would have been to accept it and maybe start seeking actual help. Instead he just goes further down the hole.
Anyways the point here is. The lesson that you can only help others so much as they can help themselves is an extremely important one. Especially when it comes to illnesses. And it may have been a bit subtle in the scheme of the overall finale. But I’m glad Owen got that message in.
About Grace
"I'm not responsible for your problems"
Was a very strong sentence for me.
I agree to her.
We make mistakes that can affect our friends and the people around us, but everyone is responsible to how they handle themselfs and how they deal with they problems.
At least that's how I took it.
I did not expect two episodes of infinity train in a row to make me cry but
Wow
Uhhhhhhhhhhh
The funeral fucking got me good
Bawling. I am telling you, I was bawling
***MAJOR INFINITY TRAIN SPOILERS BELOW***
So Hazel found out:
that Tuba has been murdered,
that her body can turn part turtle,
what death is,
and that she has to continue to be around her mother figure's murderer who could also murder her at any moment if he finds out that she's a denizen/null
ALL IN THE SPAN OF LIKE 10 MINUTES.
AND SHE'S SIX YEARS OLD.
AND THEN THE NEXT DAY HER REPLACEMENT MOTHER FIGURE ANGRILY TURNS ON HER.
I have never started a physical fight but if I were there I would have thrown hands with these people and protected her with my LIFE.
Everyone's redeemable but holy shit do they need to make some major changes and do some serious apologizing to Hazel.
Not expecting #...53891 and ...28356 from season 1 appear in season 2 as Grace and Simon respectively, which is awesome!
Also get some help you two!
so...when are we gonna talk about this?
when i watched the fountain episode of dt17 i immediately remembered simon’s death from infinity train book 3. obviously, 8Train came first, and these scenes have different levels of emotional impact and even horrificness, but still. they both got a similar reaction out of me and have similar elements, namely: disintegrating a character on screen. what th
