Just finished everyone's Haunted Winter Finale's !
Also spoilers for everyone's Haunted Winter Finale below
okay so firstly HGAYHSUIFJHSUIJAUHRIA WHY OH GOD THE PAIN THOSE ENDINGS WERE CRUEL T-T
anyway time for everyone's favourite part of the post: deranged and incoherent ramblings about minecraft block people !
So, in the Haunted Winter, there are three different endings we see. Those who escape the Winter, those who make their graves in it, and those who can't bring themselves to leave. Six people trapped here, two to an ending.
Apo was the first one to fall victim to her ending. Drowned in the lake, alone and forgotten. Apokuna died that day, but her soul, her body was corrupted into something far worse.
Neither Apo nor Legundo got to rest, in the end. Apo had her name and memory turn into something that tried to drag her friends down with them, fuelled by that small, angry part of her that said the others left her alone to die. Even if the real Apo knew no more from the moment the ice gave out underneath her feet, how could her memory ever be truly put to rest when who she was mingled and muddy with who she became, until everyone else trapped with her could barely tell the difference.
Legundo's vision may have cut to black with the impact of an axe against his skull, but his unique brand of suffering was far from over. He would go again, and again, and again. Always surviving, always running, and, in the end, always being caught up to. Like he told Marm in the crypt, he was exhausted. And there would be no respite but a few moments of darkness as his brain began to shut down, before it was time to do it all again.
Viking and Drift. The 'good' ending. A life distorted by waves of grief, of fear, of that bitter cold that seeps its way into their bones no matter how much sun they bask under. Viking, trying to move forward without his roommate, being fine, and then, all of sudden, hit with the realization that he would never get to bicker with Apo over what movie they watched first, or who got the last gummy worm in the packet, again. He would never get to watch her snort with laughter or roll her eyes at a tiktok he sent, because, one day, he sent the wrong one and they ended up here.
And Drift, the person who fought to find Apo the most. The person, who, up to the very end, was still saying they needed to go back for her, that the real Apo must be trapped somewhere inside the crypt, because there had to be a real Apo. This thing, the thing that tried to kill all of them, tried to kill her, couldn't be Apo. It couldn't. Drift, one of the only two who got out, who lived to see the sun melt the winter snow, who tried to pretend like she couldn't hear Avid and Marm corner Legundo - the one who sighed at first, but let her call him 'Margret' right up until that final fight. The one who promised her he would try his best to get them all out - pretend like she didn't know that he wouldn't be following them away from this place, just like Apo wouldn't be.
They may have been the ones to get to go home, but, as we've all seen, the winter leaves its mark.
And, finally, the ones who stayed. Avid and Marm. They started off so good, and sweet, and happy, but, slowly, ever so slowly, they let the cold and the fear and the uncertainty get to them. In the end, though, it was the hope that did this to them. Because, despite all the weariness and the dangers and the eyes that lurked on the lake at night, Avid and Marm dared to hope. They had something to lose, something that, unlike Viking or Drift, wasn't yet gone from their grasp - they had each other. And so, at the end of the day, it didn't matter that Apo was lost for good, a mystery never quite solved. It didn't matter that killing Legundo didn't set them free, that they killed an innocent man who's last word was please because these things happen, right? It was the price of staying together, and a price they were more than willing to pay.
And it was the same hope, the same willingness that meant it didn't really matter that Viking and Drift got to go home. That there was a way out. It was dangerous out there, and Avid was so close to being lost for ever, so really, it was better just to stay put. Stay in the house, where it's warm and safe and they can be together for as long as they want. So what if they have to embrace the winter a little? So what if it meant they had to stay here everyday for the rest of their lives? They were together, and that's all they needed.
And, if they get a little lonely after a while, well...the BNB listing's still up.
They can always...invite some other people here, for the winter.
anyhow, wow, this really wrote itself ! Haunted Winter was such a fun series, and all these endings were so cool to see play out ! If you haven't already, I'd really recommend checking it out - you can find a playlist of all the POVS here
I can't wait to see what kind of story gets created next ^-^
Maybeeeee there’s hope for 2006 drift. Because there’s no wayyyy Shelby wasn’t constantly pestering her for decades and decades about coming to live with them and Scott. (Shelby’s perfect happily ever after is living with both of them!!) Ideally it’s because her growing annoyance with Scott over 200 years outweighs her love for Shelby, realistically it’s probably because she likes to have her own space or whatever (boring!!). There’s also something horrifying there with the creeping realization of how this man literally got away with abuse and murder and essentially manipulated avid, indirectly leading to his death (a notion that drift would have to face sooner or later—she’s a coward, not stupid) but drift, being too terrified to actually do anything, just tries to distance herself from the situation. Hashtag #my good luck babe shubbledrift scenario
MORE IVORY IN OAKHURST AU PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE---
hmm okay… i think owen would be EXTREMELY protective over ivory. like literally no reason but he would protect her with his life. maybe in the manor there’s an old piano he shows her when she says she plays. then every night a haunted tune fills the crypt.
and then i think legs and clown would be somewhat against each other jst bc of like legs “do no harm” thingy. (though they were EXTREMELY close during the war…..)
and maybe wp!zombies related to cleo (not very closely related but like… far distant uncle and uhh siblings kid)(bro what’s the gender neutral version of niece/nephew????) and then they slap him across the face for being homophobic :3
ivory would be extremely cautious of drift bc they’re a detective (though shelby swear she’s super nice). and the maybe ivory accidentally lets it slip and that wp!borm……. yk….. and then drift almost murders him (only reason she doesn’t is bc then they'd couldn’t be a detective anymore)(and owen said that they should torture him instead :3)
