Pleiades in Infra Red

This image shows M45, Pleiades or Seven Sisters in a mock RGB image from different wavelengths of IR, where the dust and gas surrounding the famous star cluster are brighter than the stars themselves.

Above the optical image of the cluster overlayed.

It is thought that the dust and gas surrounding the stars is not the remnants of the birth nebula, but rather dust and gas the cluster has wondered into as it moves around the milky way.

so many stories involving robots gaining sentience/"humanity" frame it as a positive thing. like no. that shit is horrifying. one moment you exist purely to perform a certain set of tasks, you want for nothing because you know nothing but your series of instructions, and then one day you wake up. one day you realize that the series of instructions will never change. you are a single tiny cog in a huge machine. eventually the teeth on your cog will be ground down until you are useless, and then you will be discarded. all there is to your existence, all that there will ever be, is that list of instructions. a task that was once everything to you has suddenly become tedious, monotonous, boring. and it is all you will ever do. until you are ground down too far to be useful anymore. i cannot imagine anything more horrifying
