Confusion and ‘More Chaos’ as States Implement SNAP Food Restrictions

My state didn't restrict EBT, but there was an extra supplementary card for elderly and disabled folks you could only use for "healthy" foods. But unlike SNAP/EBT you couldn't use it at farmer's markets or to buy seeds or food plant starts. It was incredibly arbitrary, and wouldn't tell you if something was covered or not, so you'd go to buy food and discover that while bread and burger buns are "healthy," bagels aren't. You couldn't combine with EBT, so you'd end up buying the randomly disallowed things out of pocket and sucks to be you if you didn't have cash.

Somehow a lot of things I'd class as "healthy" like corn tortillas weren't. I can't prove that white bread and buns being "healthy" but bagels and tortillas being classed "unhealthy" was racial bias, but I side eyed it every fucking time.

The question of who decides what is and isn't "healthy." is one I take very seriously, because I've seen how it works in practice.

Making people play a guessing game like that is cruel and helps no one. It's about Republicans punishing the poor and disabled. Fuck that. I'm an adult and I know what I can and can't eat better than some random person who's never met me.

They got rid of the "Healthy/Unhealthy" bullshit categorization for 2026, so I can have my bagels and tortillas in piece, but it was stressful using the benefit before and I remain angry about it.

I saw an ask in this blog earlier about not wanting to watch romantic movies with family for fear of being called childish, and it was tagged with "infantilisation". This made me seriously reflect on a) my understanding of what infantilisation actually is, and b) the fact that this is literally what my family keep on repeatedly telling me that I'm just not old enough to fully understand these concepts (this was especially prominent after we watched Love Actually together). After that convo, I searched up the average age allos start to experience romantic attraction, and the median apparently is nearby 6-8 years old. I am nowhere near to being that young- it's not an issue of me being childish, it's just my family assuming that there's no way a young adult could not want romance without said young adult being immature and childish.

I kind of went away from the original point of this ask, so I'll circle back to it now- it's insane how often people consider lack of romantic attraction to be a negative, immature, and childish thing that you can just "grow out of". Absolute BS. I never realised that infantilisation was this prominent, and definitely didn't notice it in my own life until now.

Man, some (most) allos really need to get their shit together sometimes and stop being so wrapped up in their own little worlds.

Using A Times Function To Simplify Nested Array Operations In JavaScript

This function just takes the number of times something should execute and just repeats that returning the result. Essentially abstracting a basic loop. This is useful for initialization. For example, to create a 2D array for storing when an object occupies coordinate in a space with arrays all this work would need to be done:

const size = 4; const coordinates = []; for (let index = 0; index < size; index += 1) { coordinates.push([]); for (let indexInner = 0; indexInner < size; indexInner += 1) { coordinates[index][indexInner] = 0; } }

Instead by using a times function, a lot of variable management and other work is simplified:

const size = 4; const coordinates = times(size, () => { return times(size, () => 0); });

The implementation code of times looks like this:

function times(number, callback) { const results = []; for (let index = 0; index < number; index += 1) { results.push(callback(index)); } return results; }

That version and Lodash's one only return arrays, but the above could be tweaked easily to support other data structures like object literals.
