Not having Inkydust as her audio engineer was the biggest hit to FLAG imo. Opheliac sounds rich and full. FLAG's production is so hollow in comparison.
THIS IS IT!!!

I am, as we type, laying down the very very very last METAL GROWL for the album. I’m sure you can all feel it deep within your eternally damned souls.
Did you happen to notice as well that you can now listen to four ENTIRE trax from the EP on the main MySpace page? Just saying.
That’s right. Back on the mic, here I goooooooo…

Admin Note: In the comments, Inkydust posted a link to another thread with outtakes of EA singing "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want." I've included it below.
Whenever I'm sad I put on the Opheliac Companion... Listening to the two of them chat and joke around is so comforting... She will always have a special place in my heart for that
I wonder how Inky feels about EA nowadays. I know there were some forum members who were friends with him, does anyone keep in touch? Did they patch things up, or is there still bad blood?
Your Sugar...

Well, I’ve had to take a couple of days away from the grueling “Opheliac” to record the audio and finalize artwork for the re-release of poetry book, formerly called “Across The Sky” before it sold out, now called “Your Sugar Sits Untouched” and which will be a big lovely book with a CD included and also oh so very limited edition signed, blah blah, can you say run on sentance?
I am very much enjoying recording the audio version at the Asylum, complete with orchestration…it’s preposterous in a way, but something I’ve always wanted to do, the closest I get (for now!) to reciting Shakespeare on BBC Radio…so hurrah for self-indulgence, and into the iPods of all! Let’s listen to poetry on the train… Here’s the cover…dreamy…marshmallow goth…
Here’s a few other shots from that same series:
Here’s my favorite bloomers, the same used in those shots…dear god I love these bloomers:
And of course here’s something to prove we’re still working…sort of…
Tonight sees another clandestine meeting with Cornelia Teapot and the mixing of “The Art of Suicide” at Mad Villain…
For your listening pleasure during your quarantines, social distancing, and what-have-you, I present a throwback:
The Opheliac Companion!
Available on YouTube for free and for purchase on The Asylum Emporium (for a whopping $5), this is an eight hour long commentary on Opheliac by Emilie and her friend-slash-mixer-slash-fandom-icon, InkyDust.
Fans of EA's Victoriandustrial masterpiece, Opheliac, may think they know what this ground-breaking album is all about, but they've got no idea.
This is about to change.
For the very first time, EA shares the secrets behind the songs and takes the listener deep inside the making of Opheliac, alongside the album's recording engineer, the notorious Inkydust, who also happens to be one of the few men to ever exit the Asylum alive.
As hilarious as it is painfully revealing, The Opheliac Companion offers EA fans unprecedented access to the inner workings of her mind and creative process, as well as the technical details involved in bringing her intricate vision into reality.
Recorded live in the style of the "director's commentary" you might find in the special features of your favorite DVD, fans can listen to the entire Opheliac album right along with EA and Inky as artist and the friend who recorded her share the dark tales behind the lyrics, song inspirations, recording tips and tricks for the tech-geek, and how the album saved her life...
Give it a listen if you have some time to kill. I'm not over here hoping for a FLAG commentary one day, I'm really not... 👀
Hi there! Do you know if the opheliac companion ever had a physical cd release? I feel like I saw one floating around ebay a while back, but maybe I hallucinated it. Either way, thanks very much for this entire blog and I hope you have a lovely day!
There was never a physical release on that one. It was a digital download. I believe it included some other digital goodies alongside it.
You probably saw the physical audiobook release — their minimalistic black designs are similar.
