Happy Disability Pride Month! The Return of Jessica Cruz, none other than the self-described "Anxiety Lantern"!
As you all probably know, I recently wrote a fic about Jess, which brought together her, and Hailey Banks, who are both voiced by the talented Auli'i Cravalho. This is the second part of an informal series ("Jess, Crippling Anxiety, Blossoming Friendship, and What Matters"), connected, but not chronologically, or by plot, to part one, which I posted on here before, pulling from her official DC comics profile and the fact that Jess forms new friendships along the way, starting with Hailey Banks, and, in this fic, with Ran Mouri.
With that, I'm excited to present my new fic, for 2026 Disability Pride Bingo, hosted by @access-codes-zine, and it fulfills the prompts for PTSD and Anxiety, with a focus on Jessica "Jess" Cruz as she is depicted in My Adventures with Superman in a cameo that is a backdoor pilot into My Adventures with Green Lantern, a character who struggles with social anxiety and agoraphobia. Although the fic has some violence this happens in a canon-typical way, as it is a crossover with a mystery thriller series I'm currently watching. Also, happy International Kissing Day, which fits with this fic too!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Jess had come to see the majestic tall ships across Inner Harbor like thousands of other onlookers. She quickly takes a break inside of one of the pavilions to buy a boba tea and a sweet crepe. She is overjoyed. However, she soon finds herself caught up in a mysterious murder, horrifying her to no end. She is paralyzed with fear and anxiety over what could happen if the shooter finds her, believing she is weak and could have done more to save stop this tragedy, even though she has no superpowers. Some time later, a young Japanese girl and her two detective colleagues, her father and brother-of-sorts, appear. The girl soon comforts her when no one else will, bringing them together and deepening their bond…
I hope you all like it! Comments are welcome.
