INSANITY: Day 44 + Obsessions/Fruits/Veggies!
Today = INSANITY Day 44 = Max Interval Circuit = exhaustion.
I challenged myself to burn more than 600 calories and beat it by 56 (63 if you go by Garmin Connect). DONE. You do earn your body.
I am excited to almost be halfway through Month 2! A little bird (Shaun T) told me that the next challenge is a Asylum/Hip Hop Abs hybrid. Since Hip Hop Abs is not my style (not hard enough) I may be moving on to Body Beast or Asylum 2 again.
I also signed up for the Susan G. Komen race today which is on August 11th! My best friend and I ran it last year in honor of her mother who passed away a few days earlier from Breast Cancer.
I hope you can find a race near you because this is a great race and for a great cause. :)
These are some of the topics that came up between a friend and I the other night. I thought it was worth sharing! :)
Fitness - If you could not already tell! AND blogging about it.
Tennis shoes - More specifically - running shoes. It used to be cross training shoes for INSANITY, but now I need ones that do both. I also hate tongues of tennis shoes that move.
Eating cereal at night - I love Cheerios - any kind basically - with unsweetened Silk Almond Milk. I have to stop doing this - but I love it so much. I am usually careful and make sure I have the available calories to eat it and I think it fuels my morning workouts. Sometimes I even mix Crispix:
Massages - usually Swedish ones. This is more of a 'wish I could have more often' kind of thing but I love them. The hubby will sometimes try to give me a shoulder/back massage but they are painful and too quick and I have to reciprocate - fail.
My daughter - of course. She is my life and I revolve around her schedule. She wears me out but I am always focused on making sure she is fed, taken care of, and loved.
My favorite fruits (it all depends on the situation, by the way):
Bananas - I love their convenience (in a shell), before a workout/after a workout, in a protein shake, or as a snack. I also think they are one of the tastiest fruits. I do not love that they go 'rotten' fast nor the stringy-weird stuff.
Strawberries - I love the taste (especially with Lite Cool Whip) and the sweetness. However, these take a little washing, cutting, and storage and can go rotten/sour.
Golden Delicious Apples (not any other kind) - Again, these are convenient (in a shell), taste great with peanut/almond butter, are soft and sweet. However, I had a thing about washing them with soap because you do not know what has touched them.
Watermelon - Seedless. I have taken a new love to this fruit and eat it as a snack all the time. It is low in calories and had great benefits. My daughter also loves it so we always have it around. However, unless it is rip and sweet - it is a fail.
Pineapple - I love the stuff if it is pre-cut. It is a little sticky, sometimes has the brown skin on it which is hard and freaks me out, and is like candy - which can be overwhelming in mass quantities. Do not ask me to cut a pineapple when it is in its natural form.
Kiwi - I love this fruit but it is hard to peel/cut. I love it dried - but that, unfortunately, turns it into eating candy basically and that's a road I need to stay away from. :)
Cherries - These are awesome when in season and like a game of find the pit and spit it out. However, these can get addictive and I find myself eating a whole bag in a day.
Peaches, Mangos, Plums, Cantaloupe - These are all great when in season and maybe with a little lite Cool Whip. :)
Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries - I like these best in a fruit salad, oatmeal or in a yogurt parfait of some kind. My daughter is obsessed with blueberries.
I could literally dive into a giant bowl of this and swim around in it with my mouth open:
Oranges - These are too much work to peel and and the white stringy stuff creeps me out (as do the ones on bananas, but are much easier to remove). However, I will eat a clementine from time to time because they are less work.
Red/black grapes - I like the green ones if they are crisp and come with cheese cubs! However, these darker color grapes are a fail and remind me of eating gelatin raw.
Melon - You know, the green stuff that thinks it is cantaloupe but fails in flavor/juiciness and is usually never ripe? Meh, do not waste my time with that!
Lemons/Limes - I do not need these. Leave this sour couple on the stands.
Green Beans - I like the canned, fresh, frozen, etc.
Asparagus - Preferably grilled.
Broccoli/Cauliflower - Cooked and with cheese helps!
Sweet Potatoes - Grilled/baked/fried/etc.
Tomatoes - These go great on my turkey burgers, inside egg white omelettes, or simply by themselves with a little salt.
Peppers - I love them all and I like them grilled.
Eggplant/Zucchini/Squash - All fantastic when cooked right!
Cucumbers - I can eat these from time to time. I like them raw with a little salt or in salads/on turkey burgers.
Avocados - These are yummy and I eat them on turkey burgers. Although, they are expensive and go bad fast so this is rare. I like guacamole - but this is a gateway drug to doom. It requires something to dip into it and I won't stop. This is a lot like hummus for me.
Lettuce/spinach/kale/green leafy things (aside fro cabbage) - I like these if they are paired correctly. For instance - in a good salad or on a good turkey burger. If I were to make a protein shake - I could throw spinach in and drink it.
Least favorite vegetables:
Carrots - I can tolerate these if they are cooked but they really just taste like grossness in my mouth.
Corn - This stuff taste fine - but it goes right through you. Therefore, I have better more useful things to be eating.
Mushrooms - They freak me out and should only be in Mario Bros. However, from time to time I will eat small pieces in things like omelettes.
Celery - What is this? This is like eating stringy grass. If I had peanut butter I could drown out the taste of celery but I have better things to be putting peanut butter on.
Peas - I remember sitting at the dinner table for hours because I would not finish my peas. I never did either. Nowadays, if I had to eat them, I would. However, they are gross and should only be baby food. My daughter loves them though - so they are in our house. :)
Brussels Sprouts - No. Just - no.
Beets - I feel the same way. They are gross.
I literally walk into a grocery store and go to the produce (fruit and veggie) section first. I get excited by the colors, the amount available, the rarity of some available, and the ripeness. Do you go to the produce first? If not, maybe you need to venture out and find things you love that are healthy for you!
