Fortnight by MistressHeroine
“Beth! You’re home!” Beth slowly turns in disbelief and has to force herself to breathe as she sets eyes on him. The need to throw herself headlong into his arms is all-consuming. The memory of who he is suddenly snaps into place. Daryl. Her Daryl. “Happy to see ya, Greene,” Daryl says with a broad smile. Greene. He still calls her Greene. Not Mrs. Richards. She’s still Beth Greene to him, and she’s sure that’s supposed to mean something, but she can’t think of why. Greene. The sound of it sends sparks through her veins as he strides up the driveway, offering a courtesy glance up to Jimmy on the porch behind her before he’s tugging her into his arms. Beth’s eyes slam shut as she melts against him, his strong arms holding her so delicately as she feels him smile against her hair. He still smells like she remembers - like Georgia Pine, fresh water, motor oil and the faint remnants of whatever cologne or soap he uses. There’s no dirt and grime lingering underneath, just Daryl in his purest form and it makes her feel high, more alive than any of the drugs they’ve been giving her at the hospital. She pulls away to look at him properly and he keeps hold of one of her hands, their fingers lightly clasped together as he smiles down at her. “What are you… Daryl? I can’t believe you’re here.” Beth studies him, feeling like she’s known him a lifetime and for twenty seconds all at once. “What? Ya didn’ think I was gonna sit on my ass at home knowin’ my best friend was comin’ home today, did ya?” He chuckles, grabbing her shoulders and squeezing gently before he slings his arm around her shoulder and begins to walk them towards the house. “Besides, I live next door. That’d make me a real dick, don’t ya think.” “Sorry, I just… things are all a bit hazy still,” Beth apologises as they fall into step with each other. She fists her hand into the shirt at his back, needing to feel grounded by him. “Don’t do that, ya got nothin’ to be sorry for. I’s just teasin’. Did you get the flowers? Leah wanted to send roses but I thought you’d like the wildflowers more. Maggie helped pick out your favourites,” Daryl says, and she smiles at the little blush that creeps in high on his cheeks. “I did. I shoulda known they were from you,” Beth says, unsure of where the familiarity between them has come from, but it feels so good.
Here it is, the first story inspired by TTPD. I hope you all love it, this was one of those stories that just begged to be written.
Thank you to @im-immortal for offering up your amazing beta skills & helping me make this perfect!
I procrastinate by distracting myself with different things to do, as if I will magically gather up enough strength to do the things I’m supposed to do, and as if the impending doom at the back of my mind isn’t draining every ounce of energy off me.
Every time the clock is ticking, I feel incredibly lonely, and in fact, I’m just helpless and my mind desperately needs somewhere else to go to, other than the task at hand and it latches onto you, this vague memory of you and my illusionary idea of you, fading into one.
I hang onto the thought of you, I always do, because you were the only experience with love I’ve ever had, because I thought it was real. It was real, wasn’t it? I’ve never had an actual person love and cherish me the way you did (albeit probably not in the best way) and then discard and abandon me the way you did (in the worst way possible). You made me wonder, time and time again, if it was real, as if I met a time-traveler, or a reptile-person, or an alien, and no one could confirm it was true (it was like their cover-up against my testimony, which was the only testimony), and no one believed my encounter, which has stayed with me as a secret I could never bring up, unless someone at the table brought it up, but not because they knew this incident of my past, but because they heard it from the news, about another person involved, as if I wasn’t the one deeply affected by this incident. And most of the time, the matter just got swept under the table, as if I wasn’t allowed to delve deep into it, because I wasn’t supposed to, because I, like everyone else, should’ve already moved on a long time ago.
And I did, I did move on and I never thought I would still be writing about you right here, right now. I’m genuinely surprised, and a little bit disgusted by this cringey ongoing passage about you, a man I don’t think I love anymore, being the me I am now. I’m not sure how I feel about you anymore, sometimes I still feel things (maybe?), sometimes I just feel numb and confused (?), sometimes I feel like I want to feel things about you but apparently I don’t, I don’t anymore. I think about you because I want to think about the future. I want to imagine what my future partner would be like, but why do I have to think about you? Why do I have to think about old love to conjure up some ideas for new love? It doesn’t have to be, right? But I guess it’s just a helpless instinct for human to resort to past experience for some new direction in order to navigate in life. I guess it’s just the way it is because old habits really die screaming.
(p.s. I’m just marveling at the fact that taylor’s songwriting has once again subconsciously affected me and made me spill out some fragments of this prose like the part about the incident and the conspired cover-up and the way old habits die screaming. I didn’t realize I was affected by these notions and metaphors until I was writing about it.
In fact, I haven’t written such a personal piece in a long time and I’m thrilled by the prospect of possibly writing more by unraveling my thoughts and in the meantime discovering myself even more. I wish I would read more and write more.
And I’ve realized once again that sharing your writing could be such a vulnerable thing to do, like opening your wounds and putting yourself in jeopardy of judgement from others, so how taylor was able to share her long-kept secrets with the world is beyond belief. I know she’s been doing this for a long time but still the amount of courage it took and the amount of trust she placed in us and the world for understanding, for understanding her as she is, as a living and learning human being.)

How I long for our trysts without ever touching his skin. ~ Guilty as Sin?
Inej is left reeling with all these unfamiliar emotions, this ridiculous, unexpected fire coursing through her veins. It sneaks up on her suddenly and without warning, crashing like the tide against shore, ebbs and flows and builds like a raging storm inside her chest until she feels like drowning. Surely she's losing her mind. Of all the people Inej could possibly want, Kaz Brekker is by far the least expected or ideal choice.
But for the first time in what must be a lifetime she feels... something that’s been dormant so long she’d thought she’d lost forever. And she’s not sure if she’ll chase that feeling away or let it consume her whole.
Or: Inej comes to terms with her feelings for one Bastard of the Barrel.
Who's afraid of little old me? (Fontainian bourgeoisie)
good luck to everyone today~
WIP Whenever
Since I was “on a roll” with writing before posting chapter 6 of Keep Me, it’s been tough! Thanks for the tag @olpie and the tag back from @galadrieljones (which was a while ago 🙈), it actually gave me the motivation to open up my docs and just add to any of my WIPs ☺️
So here’s a snippet of another one shot currently in the draft stage, inspired by TTPD 😏
She dreams of him mostly, especially since she arrived in Alexandria. Out in the woods she used to dream about all the different ways he would save her. The ways she would save herself and come to find him. How she would track him through the woods and find him alone beside a dying fire, despair hanging around him like storm clouds. Other nights she dreams about the scent of his skin, the feel of his hands and how they might trace the subtle lines of her body. The way his mouth would move against hers and how he would plant kisses on her skin, how she would buck and writhe beneath him. Things she can only imagine, things she’s desperate to escape the confines of her dreams and become reality. It’s not rational, but it’s all she wants. It’s all she’s wanted for the past year, ever since they had escaped the crumbling prison and held onto each other like a lifeline.
Tag backs for @olpie and @galadrieljones with new tags for @im-immortal @sasusc @auroraroseane @littlelindentree
