Underwear brands for intersex individuals with ambiguous genitalia that I recommend:

MWearNYC (link) for masculine coded styles like jocks

CantiqLA (link) for feminine coded styles like panties

Both of these are also trans inclusive. CantiqLA has more room, including a larger gusset (the bottom part for the crotch) while MWearNYC has crotch pouch size options, including SMALLER pockets! They both also have options for entirely custom sizing if you message them :D

Overall just any brand that inclusive of trans bodies is more likely than not going to work for intersex bodies as well, I just have personal experience with both of these brands

the binary AGAB/ASAB terms were created with the intent of describing how doctors would mutilate newborns into being "proper females" (afab) or "proper males" (amab)... you dont wanna be using these! they're inherently tied to the medical malpractice involving newborn infants, toddlers, kids and teens. be mindful of that!

i hope that this can be taken lightly and in a "cmon guys this is no good to say" tone. please do take this seriously all-together because its something that irks a plethora of intersex people. have a lovely day!

Show a little more love to intersex people please. I love you ftmtf and mtftm intersex people. I love you afab transfems and amab transmascs. I love you shi/hir pronoun users. I love you people who don't feel "intersex enough" even though you know you are. I love you people who are proud of being intersex, and I love you people who aren't proud yet. Hey, so I saw a post from another creator about misgivings surrounding writing intersex characters. Cuz on one hand, there should definitely be more of them! But on the other, it feals like, as a non intersex person, you ought to have multiple PHDs before having ANY grounds to say anything on the topic.

As a fellow story teller who would very much like to include intersex characters, are there any intersex users around here that wouldn’t mind sharing some dos and donts? What are you looking for in good intersex representation? What harmful stereotypes should I be avoiding at all costs?

So I haven’t been on for a few days because my mom was visiting. It was a nice but busy visit for sure and we got a lot done, so that’s great. 

ALSO - I have some pretty cool news

I actually told my mom that I discovered that I am actually intersex and she didn’t believe it immediately (which I expected) but it didn’t take much explaining from there before she did finally she believe me. That was so great. 

And she totally agrees with me that it’s SO GOOD that they did not notice this when I was born and try to “fix” me. And I told her how it’s connected with the fact that I have a hard time peeing and my interstitial cystitis (bladder pain syndrome) and any surgery would likely not have fixed either of those problems and likely made it worse. 

Honestly, it’s so great that she knows now and is totally supportive.

That said, I have sooooo much to do right now so I will not be blogging much at all for the next..... i don’t even know how long. So sorry everyone, but i need to get my ass in gear with my offline life. i’ve gotta take care of myself or i won’t be able to keep doing this blog at all 😢 💜

I think a lot of people, both intersex and perisex, underestimate how hard it is to get a diagnosis if you weren't diagnosed as a minor. How reluctant doctors are to listen. To care. To investigate.

How much they will gaslight you when you bring up how any of your variations affect you

Intersex individuals who faced abuse, much like other oppressed minorities, may define themselves by that abuse, many failing to recognize other experiences and even other forms of abuse

If you have a variation, whether or not that is medically recognized by your doctors, that is having a variation.

A study called Experiences of Care and Gaslighting in Patients With Vulvovaginal Disorders (link) found that nearly 40% of the participants "said they were made to feel crazy," a little over half "considered ceasing care because their concerns were not addressed," the "common themes included lack of clinician knowledge and dismissive behaviors." ~60% faced either belittlement or outright not being believed. One participant specifically was told that medical testing "would be a waste of health care dollars," something I've been told nearly verbatim
