Do you sometimes feel like you’re not Japanese enough and also not American enough?
Yeah! Not as much anymore since I’ve really worked hard on accepting my identity and who I am, but I felt this way a lot when I was younger.
It can be really hard being caught between two cultures because I never felt like I belonged anywhere. When I’m in America, all people see is a foreigner, and everything I do is extremely Japanese. When I’m in Japan, although you can’t tell that I’m a foreigner there because I look Japanese, I have a Japanese name, and I don’t speak with an accent, people can tell I’m different from the way I act, from the way that I dress, and how I don’t know things that the average Japanese person should know.
I’ve never felt more Japanese than when I’m in America, and I’ve never felt more American than when I’m in Japan.
All I wanted was to be like everyone else when I was a kid. I wanted to be like my Japanese friends living the lives I’ve always dreamed about living in Japan. I wanted to be like all of my American friends and live that American lifestyle that I never really got to live. Being stuck in the middle and not having either was really hard, because I was always different. No one could really relate or understand me completely because of it.
And I’ve always struggled identifying with my Japanese-American friends too, because although they understood that struggle of being bicultural, we were all so different. If we all happened to be attending the same American school and not Japanese school, we wouldn’t have been friends. We were part of completely different types.
I’ve never felt like I belonged, and to be honest, I still don’t feel like I belong anywhere.
That being said, I’ve done a lot of work on getting myself comfortable in my own skin and cultural background. I had the opportunity to take several classes focusing upon culture, cultural humility and social justice that really helped me come to terms with and accept the fact that I’m different, and that it’s okay to be different. It took a lot of work, and I’m still working on it, but right now I feel fairly secure in my bicultural identity. Being able to be a part of both cultures is such a precious gift that I would never give up; even if I didn’t completely understand the privilege when I was younger.
I don’t belong in either world, but I do belong in both at the same time.
At this point, I’m able to accept it as something unique and important about me and I don’t feel a lot of that angst and helplessness and loneliness that I did when I was younger. I still struggle with it sometimes as I expect I will for the rest of my life, but things are getting a bit easier. I will never be completely Japanese, and I will never be completely American, and that’s okay and wonderful.
AAPI Heritage Month AMA: Come ask me all your questions about Asian Americans!
Can i ask again? 4 & 10
sure!
4. Least favorite expansion?
KOTET! arcann gets a ✨ redemption arc ✨, but vaylin (a character that has been abused her whole life???) is beyond redemption??? sure bioware, sure. i hate how they treated saresh, i hate that we have to choose between vette and torian, the whole iokath thing is a mess and i hate............ walker.............missions.......................
10. Worst multiplayer experience?
i could make a very VERY long list so i'll just post my favorites 🙃
- some friends stopped playing the game because of that (1) homophobic dude in our raid group, he is the main reason i don't have a raid group anymore :)
- got harrassed by a group of players i had the misfortune to meet in low level pvp, they stalked me on social medias, insulted me, etc. it's a long story. they were insulting a player, i told them to stop being assholes & they didn't like it. i don't really know why they decided to harass me, but i like to think they just want me to stop doing low level pvp because i do more damage than them every time 💅
- received d*ath/r*pe threats (the player got banned because i posted the screenshots on twitter and the swtor community manager replied to my tweet lmfao) because i wasn't doing the objective in 8v8 pvp (still can't believe someone got upset over this???)
see? this is why i don't mind ninja looters and group invite spammers lol. that being said, i had a lot more positive experiences. don't be afraid to do group content (both pve & pvp), there are a lot of kind & helpful players out there. ❤️
Hello! This is for the Fab Friday event. Thank you for hosting. This is an excerpt but it’s no longer a wip, I hope it is still sufficient.
Everything I want to say clutters an ocean and nothing comes. I cry. It is more truthful than words. Tears fall because words fail.

This is lovely!!! Really tugs on the emotions!! Great job! :D
I never read your pinned post until now. Very glad to see another mature (and i mean this in the best way) writer writing especially for adults.
Thank you! I’m hopeless at introducing myself or my projects so my pinned post just exists for right now. I’ve always tended to just naturally gravitate towards writing older characters, older perspectives and stories involving adult themes and experiences. And yes, I love being in my 30s personally! <3
Another fic idea: Zeke is an established chef at a michelin restaurant, back to wonder wharf for a stint. He decides to do a collab with Bob’s Burgers for a limited edition, one night only, dinner menu. Tina is the head chef of Bob’s burgers, Jimmy is the host/waiter, sexual tension ensues.
Thank you for this idea!
Honestly, I'm not a fan of OT3 tina/zeke/jimmy jr lol but I could see this happening, I would read it though.
Wait, idk if I'm reading this right but is tina & jj having sexual tension? Or all 3 of them are? Lol
Because if tina & jj are having that tension, count me in! I'd read that!😂
Malgus stood over the cliff face and looked down.
The wind was deafening, it had a homicidal tendency too, when it got this loud. He had been here before but that day, it was a long time ago. And calm. His legs wanted weight, wanted the things he didn’t say to anchor them to the uneven rock formation beneath. One wrong breath and he would fall. He would have to endure more than he needed to, more than he could. And he might not live to wish it hadn't happened.
It looked the same as back then. The drop was long, deep, jagged. And what would be breaking his fall would be a bed of lichen and moss atop slippery jutting stones carved by the crested anger of the sea, bird carcasses, missing whale bones, lengths of raw seaweed. The sea was hungry.
He activated his sabre. Its red call sizzled in the seaspray, it smoked in the cold-hearted wind. His eyes sat upon it; red, in the foreground of an endless, crashing blue. It was splitting open, the sea. Too many memories were vaulted, far away down, in midnight zones where no light could reach, where, if he ventured toward, the pressure of unsaid things would certainly break him in pieces, and his broken skeleton would wash ashore, where another would pray as he looked upon it, pray that nothing he would experience would be this painful.
Another lonely man. This was a site that attracted such an audience; kindred spirits that couldn’t find each other.

I haven't heard this one. It's very different from the other stuff I've heard of his.
