Well, speaking before thinking and speaking through an idea sounds pretty much like an extraverted function to me. Extraverts develop their thoughts best by expressing them outwardly while developing them. Introverts on the other hand tend to think things through and make up their thoughts inside their mind before speaking. This is also why many extraverts get confused upon asking a question and not receiving an answer right away when the introvert is actually just thinking about what to say.Extraverts’ dominant functions are connected to the outside world, this is why they directly interact with it most of the time.As a dominant Ne user, I have many, many ideas and sparks of intuition all the time but I usually notice them right while I am expressing them. Of course I am also able to think all by myself, for example when I am reflecting on something, but then I often subconsciously imagine that I am explaining those thoughts to someone. I also often have those moments when I say something and it sounds all dumb and I feel like “Oh wow, that sounded much better in my head”. Most introverts I know really make up their mind by their own and think more or less precisely about what to say and then bring the result to the outside. And now about your second question. Depending on what exactly was said, it could also be part of what I explained to you above. The whole thinking while speaking thing. But I also instantly got lower Fe vibes from that question Possibly because I’m a tertiary Fe user myself and I recognize this trait very well. And tertiary Fe means ENTP or ESTP which would actually be part of the extravert explanation. Inferior Fe means INTP or ISTP which are introverted types but the reason for their regret is also a different one.You specifically asked about speaking before thinking. This rather applies to tertiary Fe than inferior Fe.Inferior Fe users have Ti (introverted thinking) as their dominant functions. This means their first cognitive progress will be focused on their own logical framework and subjective logic. The least developed function would be Fe (extraverted feeling) which is to sum it up very briefly concentrated on the feelings and mood of the people around the user, the atmosphere and social interactions. Inferior Ti users, depending on how developed their inferior function is, might miss some things out there. They think things through and say something because it’s how it makes sense to them but their understanding of how it could hurt others could just be not developed enough. So they might unintentionally hurt someone because they just didn’t see it coming or didn’t see they expressed it in a wrong way and then regret it afterwards.Tertiary Fe users have either Ne or Se as a dominant functions so they are in their own way spontaneous. While their feeling counterparts ENFP and ESFP reflect by using their introverted feeling function Fi and thinking about what seems right and wrong and considering their moral code, Ti is more about logical and what seems right in terms of what makes sense. So an ExTP could point out someone’s mistake, for example “Oh, you didn’t make enoug food for all of us” at the table because that’s just how it is. There isn’t enough food and it seems right to say it that way. However, there’s also tertiary Fe. Fe might not be quick enough to jump into the two first functions’ observation. Thus, the user doesn’t realize early enough that their straightforward statement could hurt a person that has really tried hard to make a delicious dinner. Then they might feel very bad for it afterwards because they can sense and feel why it wasn’t the right way to say it and understand why the other person has been hurt. But all in all it really depends on how developed a function is. :)- Shireen, ENTP
