ngl for all the angst tumblr seems to like there really isnt alot of attention to the version of iphegenia being Helen's daughter Like its FUCKED but i dunno i think its very tragic and interesting. imagine how every relationship changes. Imagine Hermione and Iphigenia's relationship. how everyone's perception of her changes.

And then add on the version of Iphigenia being the mother of Neoptolemus, and you get a crazy incest story where he marries his own aunt. And then you get an explanation about why Hermione can't get pregnant. And then you get a chance where Acastus and Demophon are Iphigenia's brother and sister, too. oooo the drama is a nightmare hellscape but damn its there. helens being neoptelemus grandmother is CRAZY work

Iphegenia and Polyxena are so similar just plot wise. They’re both young virgins who get sacrificed for good winds or appeasing someone. The Trojan War begins and ends w the killing of innocent lives. A bit more into speculation: i think the two have to gaslight themselves into believing this is the better way. Iphegenia adopts the “savior of greece” mindset and Polyxena has the much more tragic “its better than slavery.” They also both console their mothers that they’ll be alright and that their moms shouldnt be too sad or smth along the lines of that. Just something to think about.

Description

This painting presents a story from Boccaccio’s Decameron. Cimon, a handsome but coarse and uneducated son of a nobleman, came across the maiden Iphegenia and fell instantly in love. The effects of love transformed him into a polished and accomplished gentleman, who eventually courted and married the beautiful Iphegenia. This scene shows the moment of their encounter – Cimon appears as a hunter at right, while Iphegenia dozes in the open air with a companion to the left. This painting is unusual in Poelenburch’s oeuvre for the large size of the figures.
