The stepping stone, an irredeamable post mortem
A big challenge when making any creative product is being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of ideas you want to express. It can be very difficult to decide what will be part of the first story and what will have to remain unknown. Irredeamable was a particularly difficult case as i wasn`t only trying to make a cohesive world for the game itself, but the first building block of a greater setting that require its own lot of setups. In such conditions, everything felt important and it took a lot of restraint to cut things down until only a tease of the true scope remained. Overall, it was a huge mess to work out, but I'm happy with the result and i feel a lot more free and focused in the pursuit of my future projects now that the foundation has been set up to build upon and i can use the previous reveals to do a lot of foreshadowing with very little.
Sorry, i got busy with a bunch of things and wasn't able to make any other post for Pride Month. So for the beginning of this totally official shame month. Here is Maneater Megan, one of the 2 canonically straight characters of the game (Everyone else either is confirmed queer or has undisclosed but flexible sexualities so feel free to headcanon and ship to your heart's content)
Even Lady sometimes parties so hard, she ends up waking up in strange places with no memories of how she ended up there.
I dont know whos setting up these statues, but they should get fired.
June Progress Report
Been working on my new game for about a month. Mostly working on features like resolution, volume control, language and multiple save files, as well as planning for the world design and working on the main character' moveset and sprites. Its going to be similar to Irredeamable gameplay-wise, but the character has a different feel and the world will be structured as a more traditional Metroidvania. Iredeamable is barely a month old and most of ya havent even touched it yet, so ill keep attention on it for now, but here a little deal. If any of you manage to get the secret/true ending and provide evidence of it, i`ll start giving teasers of the next game from time to time.
Today i wanted to give a bit of a spotlight to the song Tensions by Johan Brodd/Jobromedia which is used for The City of Thieves. New Eden is a major centerpiece of the game's story and progression and the song greatly contributes to its grungy, dystopian vibe. I do my best to credit (though i still have a lot to learn on how to do it properly) but i feel that the smaller contributions to a project often go unappreciated, especially in bigger projects where it can get difficult to determine who worked on what exactly.
What this is: A minimalistic military song with choirs, marching drums, and all sorts of strange metalic noises. Usage: Enemies plan to atta
Your game has an eldritch horror vibe to it that i cant explain
Thats an interesting observation. I dont know how far you are so ill try not to spoil, but i do think my usual themes and concepts do tend to be eldritch adjacent. Narkaas is best described as a tiny pond in a massive ocean. Its a tiny glimpse of the universe im building and there is something uncomfortable about that smallness. There are mysteries that cannot be solved. Entities that are too powerful to be held accountable or too alien to be reasoned with.
and all of that is paired with a protagonist who lacks a spark of hope. Lady is deeply fatalistic. She believes that her story has a pre-determined ending and that going against it is simply futile. Fate is a deeply eldritch concept. It's a force beyond power itself. It cannot be reasoned with, nor fought. There is no good or evil in fate, only what is and what will be. Where can hope be found when the inevitable is your enemy?
