Jenny Hval's Iris Silver Mist
Track of the day // Jenny Hval - The Artist Is Absent
From the album Iris Silver Mist, out May 2nd on 4AD.
How can you suppose to live a life with no scents?
Iris make me step back to my joyful yesterday.
Powder room of dreams, pink velvety lipsticks, fresh scented linen, morning cut flowers from our yard on the breakfast tray, windows silently open on a sweet spring welcoming garden.
Iris is one of the most powerful note in perfumes reminding youth good times.
Here’s to feel young and beautiful, despite the clock runs relentlessly.

𝑰𝑹𝑰𝑺. Quanta nostalgica bellezza emana, quanta grazia, delicatezza, femminilità.

This goes on extremely carroty. It is Not Fucking Around. Vivid, raw carrots, with an earthy tinge as though just pulled out of the dirt. Orris root often has a carrot aspect, but this is practically quipping “what’s up, Doc?”
About half an hour in, it eases up quite a bit. The iris settles into something a bit more buttery and makeup-y, there’s a breath of refined galbanum hanging around the edges, and I get a really nice, delicately sharp, tangy sandalwood. This dried-down scent has kind of a minimalist aesthetic, like turned-wood furniture. It’s something you might like if you don’t like perfume and want something a bit odd and androgynous, more a subtle extension of your person than an ornament.
It’s not really my thing, but I could see it being quirkily wonderful for the right person.
really enjoyed this album

This reminds me a lot of Lana del Rey with the sound. For some reason this was a really complicated album to write about. I've taken many breaks and having to come back to this for many re-listens; each time I do it feels better to me. I'm not exactly sure what kind of mood this puts me in or when I would listen to this, but I'm happy I'm doing so. The vocals are less melodic and moreso spoken words sung well. I'm not exactly sure this album has mass appeal, but it's working for me.
