Israel's achievements do not get enough credit. As we enter a new Jewish year, we must blow our own trumpet to send a much louder message about how Israel is making a huge positive impact for life on this planet.
Each one of the six Israeli medical articles in this week's newsletter, can benefit millions of patients - cancer sufferers, diabetics, IBD sufferers, the hearing impaired, those at risk of dementia, memory loss, victims of severe bleeding, and those with faulty heart valves.
We need to clamor that Israel is a mosaic of many religions including Druze who care passionately about their brethren being massacred in Syria. And the 1.7 million Israeli Muslims who received a visit from Rwandan co-religionists who prayed peacefully on Temple Mount. We must also loudly publicize to the world about Israel's humanitarian activities including that Israeli NGOs are helping African farmers to be self-sufficient.
We must fiercely promote Israel's environmental, social and scientific achievements. Israel is remotely managing 250,000 beehives in the USA. An Israeli is being funded by Europe to make Artificial Intelligent systems safe. And Israel is making discoveries that will revolutionize the world of optical lenses and computer storage.
Cry out to the world that Israel has developed drones that deliver food and medicine, but can also intercept drones that are sent by those who want to kill and maim. Call out those hypocritic countries that quietly purchase Israeli military technology to defend against terrorist states but scream when Israel itself uses it to defeat its existential enemies.
Finally, broadcast the news when more ancient Jewish relics are unearthed in the Jewish homeland, and loudly join in the celebrations when Jews once again travel the 3,000-year-old roads to its eternal capital Jerusalem.
The photo is of three different size rams horns (Shofarot), each ready to loudly welcome in Israel's achievements in the Jewish New Year.
I wish everyone who celebrates it, l'Shana Tova u'Metuka. A good and sweet New Year. I'm sure that we all hope that 5786 will be a Very Good Year for everyone.

The portions of the Torah read in most synagogues during the last two weeks included the hardening of Pharaoh's heart and its disastrous consequences for Egypt. In contrast there have been many recent heartening and enheartening events and activities in Israel which are strengthening the nation and benefiting the world.
Medical news includes the US launch of a unique Israeli respiratory system to boost the heart's function of oxygenating the blood in life-support patients. Read how Israeli charity Belev Echad ("One Heart") helps rehabilitate wounded IDF soldiers. The AI system of Israeli emergency NGO United Hatzalah sent its EMTs to a shopping mall to treat a heart attack patient that it had predicted would need saving. And it certainly was a heart-stopping moment when an El Al passenger had a heart attack and was saved thanks to the Head of Hadassah hospital being on the flight.
There have been many enheartening stories in the last week, not least that of released hostages being reunited with their loved ones. The sight of Israeli SmartAID volunteers restoring power to dialysis patients in Los Angeles. New housing for Israeli lone soldiers. Free scholarships for ex-hostages at Israeli Universities. And the Swedish Member of the European Parliament who fights anti-Zionism.
Finally, thanks to the generous hearts of Australians who made cases for mezuzahs that will be fixed to the doors of residents of Israel returning to their rebuilt homes. And we hope that the heart of 101-year-old Walter Bingham, the world's oldest journalist, will keep beating until he reaches 120.

System set to be delivered to IDF by end of year after successful final tests; defense minister says Israel 'first country to possess this c

Israel’s high-powered laser interception system, dubbed “Iron Beam,” has been declared operational after completing development and final tests, and is set to be delivered to the military by the end of the year, the Defense Ministry and manufacturer Rafael said on Wednesday.
The Iron Beam has been in development for over a decade; it was first unveiled in 2014. During the current war, a lower-powered version of the system was used by the Israel Defense Forces to shoot down Hezbollah drones launched from Lebanon.
The ministry said its Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D), the Israeli Air Force, and the Rafael defense firm “successfully completed an advanced series of operational tests, which lasted several weeks, to demonstrate the capabilities of the high-power laser system.”

It said the test involved the interception of rockets, mortars, and drones by the Iron Beam.
“The series of tests, conducted at a testing ground in southern Israel, concludes the development process and constitutes the final stage before delivering the system for operational use in the IDF,” the ministry said.
In a symbolic move, the ministry renamed the system in Hebrew from Magen Or(light shield) to Or Eitan(Eitan’s light), after Cpt. Eitan Oster, 22, a commander in the Egoz Commando Unit, who was killed fighting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in October 2024. Oster’s father, who works for the DDR&D, was among the “initiators and developers” of the Iron Beam project, the ministry said.
The Iron Beam is not meant to replace the Iron Dome or Israel’s other air defense systems, but to supplement and complement them, shooting down smaller projectiles and leaving larger ones for the more robust missile-based batteries such as the David’s Sling and Arrow systems.
As long as there is a constant source of energy for the laser, there is no risk of it ever running out of ammunition. Officials have hailed it as a potential “game-changer” in the battle against projectile attacks.
