Another tragic Irumeri moment.
me when someone asks which ship i like more, Hybrid Fantasy (Irumeri) or Love Trio (Iruclarazz)
my hetgem yayyyyyyy <333
YEAAAAAHHHH HE BE BLUSHING HE IS SO FLUSTERED AND NERVOUS YEAAAAH AMERIRUMA!!!!!!
Ngl, I like seeing Iruma get close to the other misfits and going on adventures, but Iruma x Ameri was always the best part of the show for me, so I’m glad we finally got back to the basics. Best episode in a very long time. Saved my bitchass life
I know she's probably too minor a character to get a full character arc, but now that @hiddenfolk has got me thinking about Eiko, I kinda do hope that someday she gets confident enough to confess her feelings to Iruma and to Ameri. Not because she thinks they're likely to feel the same way, especially if she's never really managed to talk to either of them before, but as a benchmark of how admiring them has made her a more confident person. And while my first choice for Mairuma endgame is Love Trio + Ameri + Extended Polycule of Misfits because I am That Multi-Shipper, if we assume that canon endgame is probably going to be Iruma/Ameri, then Eiko's confessions could fit into that relationship progression. Basically, I could see Eiko's confession to Ameri as a catalyst for Ameri to confess to Iruma, even if they aren't the same rank yet. After all, if Eiko, who is probably still not that high-ranked, can have the conviction to tell Ameri how she feels, then maybe Ameri will be inspired not to put off her own declaration of love. And for Iruma, Eiko confessing to him might get him to finally think about his romantic life, since recent manga chapters indicate that he's currently pretty flustered at the whole topic.
Started Irumafia for the angsty IruAzz and the unhinged Irukiri, but why is Ameri x Iruma actually compelling in this spinoff?
Maybe it's that Ameri herself is much more interesting as a slum child who built her way to leadership from scratch protecting the disenfranchised rather than the role of a cop enforcing an existing system that she plays in the main story. She also gets to experience more serious moral dilemmas than she ever does in the main story.
The way Iruma and Ameri switch between the roles of princess and knight for each other is fun and subverts the typical trope in interesting ways as well. Her Irumafia counterpart just seems to lean into all of the best aspects of her character - her pride, lofty ambitions, leadership, and pushiness, while leaning away from the more stale parts of her main story adaptation surrounding how she handles her crush on Iruma.
Well, fuck me, I guess I ship Ameri x Iruma now. Still ship Love Trio, though. I'm usually not much of a multishipper, but if there was ever a series for it, I suppose this is the one.
