It’s so interesting how Dot’s endless striving to be calm and free of thoughts is so often a hindrance to them, but also gives them a unique advantage. Specifically when the crew is interacting with people they need to work with but who have done something wrong- that is, Mr. Pesto, and Steve. Most of the crew let their prejudices (which are themselves quite justified) eliminate any chance of connecting with these people. Those who don’t have the same prejudices still go along with the rest of the group’s negative feelings, or at least won’t contradict them.
But Dot hardly seems to notice this, and if/when they do they never let it sway them. They are able to genuinely connect with Mr. Pesto, and get valuable advice from him. They seem to bring out a warm, compassionate person in him despite his obsession with the Trust.
And while the crew is forming a front against Steve, based almost entirely secondhand on the experiences of someone who isn’t even there, Dot doesn’t pull back from Steve at all. The discomfort and (justified! deeply held!) anger of Rawfield and others doesn’t seem to affect them at all. And they do actually get something valuable from Steve. It remains to be seen how the voyage will go, but iIm inclined to agree with Dot- Steve can help them protect the ship as it leaves the cosmos, and he intends to do so. He has something to offer, and Dot can get to it when no one else can.
Even when Everett was angry with Dot for reasons they didn’t understand- they never shut her out. Where most people would have developed a grudge of their own and widened the gap in the relationship further, Dot stayed perfectly still until Everett was ready to explain. They get to share an understanding and a friendship with Everett now because they were always open to see what she had to offer.
Dot has this superpower and is showing that even when people have been cruel, thoughtless, manipulative, misguided, prejudiced- even then, they might have something to offer, something to connect to. Even if they don’t change.
Sorry for being inactive I got sick and got an art buff out of nowhere
There should be more single people down to flirt in the most romantically shameless way and never acctually do anything about it except maybe kiss sometimes kiss kiss a little
Matt Curtin making a skit out of himself accidentally calling Tiger from MHA a cis man (he’s trans) and ending it with a joke about how Bakugo can say fag is honestly high tier gay comedy let’s go.
I highly recommend listening to kvæði while you work. They're just kind of chill and repetitive and if you don't speak Faroese you won't get distracted by the words and I think they sounds really cool almost like listening to the Quran actually except less important
Nurse: "Alright. I don't need a whole audience here while I treat Miss Addams"
Xavier: "Can some of us at least stay? To make sure she's alright"
Nurse: "Making sure she's alright is what I am here for"
