I’ve seen so many fancasts for one piece for future seasons and this makes me think about whole cake. I’ve seen people discuss about the fancasts for the vinsmoke brothers and it’s mostly about whether they should cast different actors who look a bit like Taz or should Taz do all the acting for the 3 brothers since they are quadruplets. I am not quite sure what I prefer but it would such an acting challenge for Taz if he were to portray all of the vinsmoke brothers.
I recently watched an interview of him talking a bit about this because the interviewer brought it up. He was asked if he has people in mind to play any members of his biological family and Taz said that he would love to portray one of Sanji’s brothers and that he could picture Craig Fairbrass (Zeff) as Judge. I am not gonna lie having the actor for Zeff also portray Judge is such an interesting and inspired idea, the subtext of it is very interesting to think about. And it has been done before, in the Peter Pan 2003 film, Jason Isaacs both acted as Wendy's father/Mr Darling and Captain Hook. Taz also talks a bit about Kamabakka kingdom and he said that “I hope we get to do it. And I hope we get to do it in the most beautiful, respectful and interesting way possible.”
The interview is in Spanish but you can put on the English subtitles, https://youtu.be/Y4vZQSnXyR0
when it comes to the vinsmokes my first choice would be the three of them played by triplets who resemble taz, because it would really add to the fact that sanji’s the outlier and give a real sense of otherness, like they’re definitely brothers but that one’s not quite the same.
to be brutally honest about i have never really liked twins etc being played by the same people in media, not because it doesn’t work because it’s been done a million times before and it absolutely does work but because i’m a twin myself and i have spent my whole life being treated like me and my brother are the same person which can be shitty and so i like seeing twins played by different people because it gives more of the sense that they are different people because they are different people. that’s definitely a personal gripe though and it’s not a casting trope i’m fully against because like i said, it does work.
that being said i do think taz could pull off playing all four of them and i know he would have so much fun doing it. i could definitely seeing him having his own spin on each of the brothers and making them all their own. it’s definitely a challenge he would relish in.
that being said again i don’t know how seriously i could take it if i were to watch wci and it’s taz in 3 different wigs. i think what makes the twins played by the same person trope work so well in the instances that it’s been done is the fact that they’re always introduced at the same time and so you get to know them as separate people at the same time whereas when i look at taz i think sanji and i don’t know if i’d be able to unsee that if he were to play all 3 of them. i would it worry it would end up feeling more like they’re clones than quadruplets, which is ironic all things considered.
as for judge i have absolutely no idea how i feel about craig fairbrass playing him. i think it could be really cool and work or it could be really bad and feel really cheesy with no in between.
and you didn’t mention her but i’m always gonna push my madelyn cline as reiju agenda because in my humble opinion she’s perfect, enough said.
i saw the clip of taz talking about kamabakka kingdom when it was first released and honestly the way he talked it was really heartening. the biggest issue i have with that setting and storyline is that, whilst the fanon version you see in art and fics etc is wonderful, so much of the time it’s a transphobic caricature, plain and simple, and so hearing taz talk about wanting to do it and wanting to do it respectfully and to create something beautiful is really nice.
