Moving out of Fall Funk and am watching one of my comfort shows: 9-1-1.
I’m now on season 4 episode 1 (The New Abnormal). And, why aren’t we talking about Athena’s mental and emotional health? This woman has been through and seen it all!
First season: her daughter attempted suicide, PTSD, husband comes out, divorce, her best friend cheating and the ensuing Hen family woes, Tanya Kingston
Second season: the earthquake, being introduced to her ex’s boyfriend, witnessing Bobby standing on a ledge dosed, bomb threats, introducing Bobby to her parents, watching her adopted son Buck’s (yes, I 100% subscribe to Athena and Bobby being Bucks’s surrogate parents. Fight me please! I need the adrenaline rush!) foot get crushed, PTSD, searching for Maddie and her abusive husband with Buck, watching her about-to-be husband sacrifice himself to a vengeful bomber
Third season: Buck throws up blood during a welcome back ceremony, Tsunami, field amputating a fire captain’s limb, her murdered fiancé, catching her fiancé’s killer, PTSD, her husband managing a lawsuit from her surrogate son, Tanya Kingston, Bobby’s cancer/radiation scare, her ex and great friend is diagnosed with brain cancer, being physically assaulted by a serial rapist
So far with Season Four there’s COVID, Mudslide and PTSD from the assault. Then the standout events from Season Five includes Harry’s kidnapping, PTSD, guilt and shame
Season Six: her father’s health, the case of Tanya Kingston, learning about the family friend/contractor and his son, worrying about her husband being shot in the orange groves
And not to mention the daily grind of being a sergeant - the murders, physical/sexual assaults, child abuse, elder abuse, partner abuse, shenanigans, false calls, pranks calls, worrying about her daughter’s MH, worrying about her son’s MH, worrying about Michael’s, Bobby’s, her mother’s, her father’s, Hen’s, Buck’s, Karen’s, Eddie’s, Maddie’s, Chim’s- everyone’s MH…
What about Athena? We’ve seen her sob (that scene where she comes home after arresting Emmett Washington’s killer OOF!) but come on…is she all right?
