hot take: what if we stopped reducing the oh hellos entire discography and presence down to soldier, poet, king. don't get me wrong, its a fantastic track, and it gets a lot of people into the band. but im so tired of saying "you know, the soldier poet king band." they are more than one song, and i beg you to listen to the rest of dear wormwood and through the deep dark valley and the wind eps because its all so good.

there's something so hopeful about theseus. the whole song exudes a sense of mending and putting the pieces back together (a motif revisited later in soap). it's at its most powerful at "it's gonna hurt like to become well" and "i want for us this: we are well, we are well, we are well" and later in soap when it becomes "it's gonna hurt like hell / but we're gonna be well / i'll give you my best shot" and it's just so ahhh ??? like yes it's going to be hard but we are going to be ok again :)
