So, I just had a thought about Gangle and the motif of the trucks.
People have been looking at it from the angle of "maybe she got hit/ injured and that's got something to do with how she ended up here" but I think that's failing to take into account the character themself.
We already know that she's a massive fucking weeb (no shame, me too), in weeb, big ass truck hitting someone almost always means you're dealing with an isekai.
In Spudseys she's in bad shape, looking for escape, that's what the isekai truck is, a "take me away from here" moment, an attempt to isakai out of the circus.
The reappearance of the truck in her torture sequence is there to mock her for the same reason "this is what you wanted, you've been teleported to a magical world, you got your isekai"
Welp, I see some new faces alongside some older friends who could tolerate me... for that, I thank you for sticking around to see me be less shitty, buuuut enough about me~
Irin (left) and Avery(right) for my "hard" sci-fi love letter, "Valentine//Crimson Ash." I call it "Hard sci-fi" because outside of the magical powers of the human characters, everything else is relatively "realistic."
I made them rather undetailed because I want this to look like a 2000s anime, and therefore, like each frame had to be hand-drawn over and over, so if you have to draw it 12 to 24 times for a single second, you'll want to be far less of a pain. Granted, I don't think it really looks hand-drawn yet.
... I tend not to talk about this much as it always feels cringe
Ie: Only relativistic space flight as a max speed. Lasers always travel at the speed of light, and their use in warfare is closer to killing ants with a magnifying glass. The two alien sophonts being nonhumanoid in appearance, thoughts, culture, and morality. No artificial gravity... well, for whatever the sophont species can make, gravitons do exist in the setting, and very advanced "god tech" races can utilize them... not that we'll (you'll) see them
...
And despite everything, a quasi-indestructible material that's been created just a few Earth months before the story started, thanks to some very rapid breakthroughs in femtotechnologies. Picotech and femtotech are gonna play significant roles in the story... for reference, they view nanotechnology the same way we view bronze. Their emperors are borderline "God Kings" in terms of quite literal power, status, and wealth.
Okay, so finally onto the characters.
Before the story, Irin was a fea princess in some bizarro fantasy empire that overthrew their equivalent of the mid-19th-century US. While magical people do exist in their world, and these people are called "fea." It's completely random and has nothing to do with bloodline or geography, but has almost everything to do with wealth and power, as the most powerful fea tended to overthrow the previous rulers/establish a separate empire... her father and "grandfather" were such beings. Of course, I'll elaborate on the more... in the story ;)
She's around 13-15 and was raised believing that she's inherently "superior" to not only those without power, but to most other fea as well, in large part because... well, she was essentially "indestructible" to the people of her world as seemingly no amount of physical force could even scratch her. She legitimately had no idea as to what pain felt like till she came to "their" world... though she does have a weakness to Iron when sleeping, not that anyone's gotten close to her.... she's not too strong offensively though, she can shoot bullet-like magic projectiles and has minor "miracle" casting abilities. Like, while she couldn't heal you if you were cut in half, she could fully heal your broken arm that "just doesn't work right," or while she couldn't instant solve world hunger, she could summon a few tea cakes, hence her slowly increasing w e i g h t.
She does that one a lot actually, mostly to fill a love shaped void as she's had no actual friends ever, her non fea siblings envied and secretly hated her, she cannot talk to or summon her dad (she constantly tries when upset, but only gets a sketch/photograph)... so she grows quite attached towards really anything that gives her affection over a prolonged period of time.
... if it's not clear, she's basically a very insecure child with a massive god complex; it takes very little to set her off, whether it be crying or seething with utter rage. If you do not entertain her, take care of her, or rival/surpass her in physical power, she views you as literal dirt and is seldom thankful for anything given/gifted to her as she believes she was inherently entitled to it... Well, at the start of the story.
... that said, she really does love the Old Man of the Radio Tower and eventually grows rather fond of Avery, if for none other reason than them both speaking English.
Next up, Avery... Off the bat, the person he is in the first timeline is not someone you should idolize; do not become him. Do not glorify his drug/alcohol abuse, do not glorify his rampant cutting and scars, do not glorify his emotional manipulation of Irin and those around him, do not glorify his self-hatred, do not glorify his obsessive tendencies. Do not glorify these; you do not want to be like Avery in the first timeline. He is full of wrath, and he takes it out on the world in all ways but physically striking it himself because the high gravity of the world leaves him mostly crawling in an infantile state.
While he is very, very mentally unwell, this does not excuse or "justify" any of his actions. There was a reason he had no friends or partner(s) while on our world, and it's not because "he's shy and has a buncha uwu cutesy anxiety." You do not want to degrade to the state Avery will be in at the start of the story.
I know that everything I said about Avery is very "circular," and that's because when I actually start writing and publishing this story, I need the very illiterate landmines to understand this. I made this FOR landmines... and Peter Watts, but he'll obviously get this... if he even reads it
Anywho, if it's not abundantly clear, Avery has the power to time-travel; more specifically, he can time-travel whenever he dies, like Frisk or Subaru. Unlike those two, he can pretty much save and load whenever and wherever he pleases, at the cost of a stroke/heart attack that cannot be stopped via healing magic or the wonderful technologies of "the others' worlds." While he does abuse this power a lot for primarily selfish reasons at the start, he'll never use it to purposely hurt Irin, the Old Man, the 6D "redditor," the scholar, and/or the grace's younger sister. Granted, despite this, his powers do have some limitations as while he can save/load at any point, only a singular save slot can exist at once, so he constantly has to be careful when saving, also, his saves never automatically update, so if he saves once, goes five years without dying and then chokes to death on a dry biscuit, he'll have to repeat all five of those years from his last save. He also can't take anyone back with him, though for better or worse, he can actively tell others about his deaths... and theirs too. That said, Irin does occasionally get a bit of deja vu or slightly more than never, an entire memory
He will be quite horrible to the grace herself, the military policemen (rather deserved up to a certain point), and the Robocop/Skynet/ the sales pitch for next generation warfare (very, very undeserved, genuinely tries to be "Superman" or Murphy). In the FIRST timeline, that is. He genuinely does start becoming a better person in the next beginnings.
I didn't talk much about his world as it's just ours, but before waking up in "their world," he was a 23-24 year old NEET who lived with his aunt and uncle after a failed suicide attempt in college. He mostly sat in his dark room getting drunk/high, but not gaining too much weight because he rarely ate. Aves hardly engaged with any of his hobbies as it just lost all meaning to him, and rarely spoke to his family. When he disappeared, his aunt and uncle genuinely believed they failed him, as he almost certainly left in the middle of the night to kill himself, and he succeeded (clearly not the case to us). There was no note, no goodbye. He misses them so much; he misses them as much as they miss him. He wonders if they look at photos of when he was a child and cry. He'll never know.
Also, Irin does NOT have red eyes; they're actually a very dark brown/black. I just made them red whenever a light is placed on them, as she's basically a bunny/mouse girl. She has massive rodent-like incisors that either must constantly be cut, filed, or used so they don't spiral out of her mouth
I will be posting the sophonts together as it's pretty impossible to talk about one without mentioning the other.... As the story is a very obvious love letter to Peter Watts' "Firefall Universe," one (technically two or three species by our standards) will be far less conscious than the other people (only one species that just has a bunch of "races" like humans, which are really just minor adaptations to separate climates, specifically sunlight)
(There was a word, but I forgot, and these imbecilic Chinese rooms enforced onto every search engine by these sociopathic suit-wearing chimps impressed by a billion bells and whistles strapped to a bundle of rusted keys makes research really difficult. Do they understand that nobody truly likes them?)
The cold Lord of the North has become a good father
After discovering that his daughter was inspired by him to the creation of the villain of her story, Bruce is killed, and awakens in the world of Uncrowned Emperor, in the body of Lord Bruce Wayne, the scum villain. But don't worry. He got this.
He won't get involved in the messed up politics of that world, and will stay away from the main characters, living a quiet and peaceful life.
His was a nearly perfect plan. Too bad he hadn't foreseen assassination attempts, too perceptive butlers and children.
Lots of children.
Moreover, the Emperor Kal is too friendly and makes Bruce feel confused and annoyed.
What the hell is happening with the plot? Will he be able to survive?
I love food isekai anime which seems sadly to be a small niche of iskeai.
