Have we got so used to the sight of women and children in this hottest of warzones that we have become blind to what a grotesque and preposterous situation this is? Women and children leave warzones. That’s the one nod to civilisation man makes even in the hell of war. Almost eight million souls have fled Ukraine since Russia’s invasion, most of them women and children. Around seven million Syrians fled fighting over the past decade, some seeking refuge in safer parts of Syria, others in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan. They were mostly women and children. And yet in that bloody limbo of Gaza, women and children stay.
The truth – the jarring truth – is that they are there because the moral institutions of the West have all but forbidden their fleeing. This is the first war of my lifetime where not only have women and children not left the warzone but their leaving has been actively discouraged by the West’s opinion-setters. The instruction comes from the top. We would normally support the ‘universal right to seek asylum’ as a ‘matter of principle’, said the UN High Commission for Refugees last year. ‘But in this case, there is also… the international legal obligation of an occupying power not to force the civilian population to flee.’ Any ‘exodus of Palestinians’ from Gaza would only create another ‘intractable problem’, the UN said.

This is an agreement that we wholeheartedly support because, despite your best efforts to lie, distort, and confuse people … it does not give away any portion of Lebanon to anyone at all. The agreement quite literally says, and I quote, "the government of Israel declares that it has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon," and that its troops will "redeploy out of Lebanese territory."
Let me read that again for you. Its troops will redeploy out of Lebanese territory. Can you not read? Well, maybe you can, but that is not your real issue. It never was. Your real issue is that Lebanese sovereignty to us is indivisible. Your real issue is that Israel will withdraw, but in conjunction with the end of Iran's proxy occupation of Lebanon, also known as Hezbollah.
This is your problem. This is an occupation that has oppressed us, killed us, robbed us, and dragged us against our will into countless wars, two in the past two years, for the satisfaction of their ideological fantasy.
A proxy occupation without which we would not have 67 destroyed villages, a million displaced sleeping in our schools, 4,000 people dead, 10,000 people injured, the occupation of 600 square kilometers of our country, or even the need to negotiate with Israel. A negotiation that had Israel in writing agreeing to leave, while Iran, your favorite, still refuses to disarm its proxy.
So if you useful idiots are so keen on us confronting the enemy, rest assured, we're doing just that.
