Tonight as we welcome New Year, we also step into the 1st blessed night of Rajab, a night where duaa is not rejected. It is one of the four sacred months in Islam. It is the month of Allah as found in a hadith by Prophet Muhammad pbuh, and for believers, it's a month of repentance and istaghfar. Make sure to offer atleast 2 rakahs of Nafl tonight, followed by dhikr Allah and istaghfar.

‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir reported: A man came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “O Messenger of Allah, one of us has committed a sin.” The Prophet said, “It will be written against him.” The man said, “Then he has sought forgiveness and repented.” The Prophet said, “He will be forgiven and his repentance accepted.” The man said, “Then he returns to committing a sin.” The Prophet said, “It will be written against him.” The man said, “Then he has sought forgiveness and repented.” The Prophet said, “He will be forgiven and his repentance accepted. Allah will not tire of forgiveness unless you are tired of asking.”

Sincere repentance softens a heart devoid of the joy in meeting your Lord in worship. If your salah feels empty and mechanical, I have found it helps to increase in doing astaghfar. And Allah knows best.
