Every time I go onto Facebook now, it's mostly talk about ISIS and what they have done. Which I understand, it's gossip. That will happen, and I'm okay with that. But it's how everyone is gossiping about it that's really been setting me into this terrible mood.
"Damn Muslims fucking up everything good in the world."
"I don't know why the Muslims are being so mean, but they need to stop!"
"Should just kill off every Muslim man, woman and child. #SidneySeige"
Notice how it's really not about just ISIS now? What really breaks my heart is that it started to spread into family conversations. Even here on Tumblr I've seen these types of posts. People claim this website is for everyone and all for equality and freedom, this and that. I'm not listing names, it isn't my place to do that. But I'm not going to stand for it.
The act of one individual or group does not - I repeat, does not, summarize how an entire race or religion acts. It does not define a country or its people. It does not define those outside of the group or individual's ideals. I'm getting tired of telling people this! I'm sick of it! But the more I try to tell them, the more they just seem to make it a point to not listen to me!
The color of your skin does not matter. Your religious beliefs do not matter.
Well... They do... But not in a negative way. Diversity is a beautiful thing, and it really matters! I for one don't want a world with just white Christians, or a world with only Muslims. I want a world with many ideas, many beliefs and a variety of life in it!
I'm not standing for this behavior anymore. I've already told my grandmother this hours later. I don't think she understands, but that is her loss. I'm not tolerating the racism, I'm not tolerating others' desires to completely "kill off" another race or religious belief. I'm done with it. I'm done!
Because I stand with diversity.
I stand with freedom, both for individuals and for groups.
