Can I just say for one second that I am disgusted by the response to the terrorist attacks this past Friday. The immediate response of “Pray for Paris” is the most ironic yet hypocritical thing that could have happened. Religion is what has fueled these attacks for years, it seems inappropriate for it to be the global white response to such an event. But this is not what disgusts me. There was also an attack in Lebanon on the same day. This has become well known. My disgust has come from that fact that it has become a social competition to acknowledge the Beirut attack over the Paris attack. People who don’t are somehow “more ignorant” “more white” and “less cool”. I am genuinely astonished that our world has come to this. It does not matter which affected victim we identify most with. It does not matter the race or ethnicity of the perpetrators of such attacks. It matters that we support the victims in their grief, and more importantly, work towards a world where terrorism is no longer a daily occurrence. Because right now it is. Whether it is a mass shooting in France, a suicide bombing in the Beirut, a school shooting in America, a downed plane in Russia, or a bombing in Turkey, Southeast Asia, South America, or the Middle East. These have all occurred in the past month.
