Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are actually probably my favourite pokemon games ever now. They're basically the closest thing we've got to a playable version of the Pokemon anime. Jessie and James are in it! But so is Team Rocket Admin Archer! Nurse Joy is there, and she's got a Chansey with her! Officer Jenny is there! She's never in the games! It's just...it very much is the anime if the anime wasn't focused on being a TV show and was a game.
Why don't we talk about these games more? Why don't they get sequels? I would kill for a sequel to these games! I don't care about Legends Arceus, I want Let's Go...idk, Let's Go Dedenne or Let's Go Togepi or something! I just want this sort of artstyle, this sort of anime reference heavy game that isn't afraid to be different but whimsical in it's differences.
Seriously, I think this game proves that Rocket Admin Archer must exist within the world of the anime. And I think that's pretty neat. I think it's neat to see Eevee and Pikachu talking like they do in the anime. No animal cries, but tons of "pika pi pikachu" and "eevee (in various pronunciations)!" I love this. It makes Pokemon Violet look like a disaster (because it was one) and it makes me feel that soft, safe, optimistic warmth the anime gives me.
This game is the one time I've chosen to name the player after myself. I never like seeing my own name in a game, but here? Here, I'll make an exception. If I ever buy Let's Go, Pikachu!, I will name myself Ash. But for now, I've just named myself Shamus (even though I never like naming characters after myself in games because it feels surreal reading my name out) and I named the rival Casey (because I had Casey Kasem on the brain, honestly). My Eevee is named Christmas (subject to change one day) and I am happy. I was really sad earlier, but now I'm happy.
I'm gonna go look up the theme songs for the pokemon anime. I discovered a video way back in 2017 or so compiling all the english pokemon anime theme songs (up to 2017), and I'm gonna listen to that while I play.
PS: I stand behind my feelings of burnout. I also stand behind feeling weird lately. Overly congested and full of stomach problems. I'm also still itchy from my haircut earlier. And I'm still nervous for visiting my old High School tomorrow. But this game is making it all just a little bit more bearable today. Thanks go straight to Eevee, who made me smile from minute one.
