this follows on from my latest addition to my liveblogging post about the nevermoor series (that being, the question of "how do you get an imprint for the wundrous art of nocturne if the main Thing is just summoning wunder?"). while i was thinking about this i realised that at some point during the series, squall looks at morrigan's inferno abilities and says that it's "an unusual first manifestation for a wundersmith" or something like that, and i was wondering - each of the original nine wundersmiths was chosen by one of the nine wundrous divinities, right? so what if each line of wundersmiths (since they get reborn when they die, essentially) specialises in one of the wundrous arts because they're descended from the original wundersmith that was chosen by that divinity, and that sort of dictates or influences whatever their first imprint is (because it signifies mastery of a wundrous art). so morrigan would be part of the line of wundersmiths chosen by the Kindling, as would gracious goldberry probably. decima kokoro, since she was amazing at water-weaving, might come from the line chosen by the Manyhands. obviously as time goes on they all learn every art and master it but it's interesting to think about the history behind it and how the manifestation of their abilities works!!
