Okay, so back when the Magnet boots first activated in the Party Car, Kez said “That’s not supposed to happen until...”

Then later when she’s talking about how Jeremy left, she said she didn’t think he wanted to leave but he got sucked through. We know from previous seasons that unless you touch the portal directly that won’t happen.

We know until Amelia took over the passengers were unable to take off their boots. My theory is that the purpose of the boots is to force unwilling passengers off the train.
