Cassie said that the Italian shadowhunter coming to London in CoI will have a crush on someone and I think it'll be our boy Christopher (who'll probably be oblivious to it).

I’m not Italian but I have seen a lot of people upset with the name of the Italian shadowhunter Filomena I hope I am spelling that correctly, so could you please elaborate why it’s a bad choice and not okay if you could. Thank you.
Hi @jemlovelace21! So many of you asked me about this, I’m happy you guys are interested in Filomena (yes, you spelled that perfectly!) as much as the Italian fandom is. Here’s a little background to the character I wrote back in June that you should read before my answer.
Before Cassandra announced Filomena’s name, she said it would be “a funny surprise” for those of us who read lots of books. We went crazy with headcanons, but in the end, Filomena is a pretty rare name and only appears in secondary and tertiary characters in Italian literature (there’s a Filomena in Boccaccio’s Decameron and a Mena in Verga’s I Malavoglia), so it really isn’t a funny surprise for us... Guess she baited us a bit there, but whatever. There is also an iconic play by Eduardo De Filippo titled Filumena Marturano, about a Neapolitan former prostitute and mother, but that’s neither here nor there.
None of us are excited about the first name, but okay. It’s absolutely Cassie’s prerogative to pick names for her characters. Let’s look at the last name: Di Angelo. I am as happy as the next person that Cassie and Rick Riordan exchange character names (if you don’t know why people are excited, Rick named one of his protagonists Magnus after Magnus Bane, and Cassie now borrowed Di Angelo after Riordan’s Nico di Angelo).
Di Angelo is a pretty rare name in Italy. Like extremely rare. I’ve never heard it and by doing some online research, it looks like there aren’t even 100 people (out of 60 million Italian citizens) with that name. There’s a more common spelling of the name that is “D’Angelo.” However, it’s not the last name itself that I have a problem with. I guess it’s the meaning. Di Angelo literally means “Of Angel” (not “of the angel”, that would be the more common “Dell’Angelo”).
We’re talking about Shadowhunters, a race of superhuman beings who got their gifts from an Angel, and this family goes and calls itself “of Angel?” What about the rule that Cassie herself has set that all Shadowhunter families have composed last names like Heron+Dale, Light+Wood, Fair+Child? Tell me this isn’t because Italians are supposed to be super religious.
My only explanation for Di Angelo would be that they are some sort of bastard/orphan Shadowhunters without a family, and thus belong to the Angel Raziel. Maybe that’s it. That would be super interesting and realistic actually. It would be like the Shadowhunter version of “Esposito” aka the Italian last name given to all familyless orphans centuries ago.
Filomena wouldn’t have to be an orphan herself, one of her ancestors would have taken on this name and passed it on to his children.
For some reason, I doubt this is going to be the case, but it’s going to be my headcanon now. Hope this helped!
I don't know if we already have this information but I didn't know so here ya go.
I was just looking at Cassie's TLH board on Pinterest and look what's captioned under this pin!
FILOMENA.
It has to be the Italian shadowhunter who will be introduced in Chain of Iron!
The Italian Shadowhunter Name
YO!!!!!!!! I was just looking through the Chain of Iron wiki page and the Italian shadowhunter staying in the London institute for her training year and her name is Filomena, which kind of has a similar spelling to my named which is Ximena. But idk if this is official yet but just want let people know. :D
the italian shadowhunter
if that girl isn’t called Francesca Malatesta i’ll be so fckin pissed because the irony...... cassandra i’m watching you
hey!! This is maybe a random question, but do you hace any theories about what will happen in the upcoming book Chain lf Iron?
Hi!! I have many, but they’re pretty bad and crackpot!! These are my top three:
Also CHOG SPOILERSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1) I think (and hope) we’ll learn about the Rosales family and how they got that heirloom from LoS (because it’s called Chain of Iron and Fey are “allergic” to iron) mainly because I want to see a Rosales and Thomas speaking in Spanish to one another. I don’t think it will be centralized in Faerie though because that was a central theme in TDA and it wouldn’t feel like CC to repeat locations too much.
2) I think Cordelia and Matthew are going to Cornwall. Idk why, but there were weird things in that institute in LoS, so I think we’re going to learn about why it’s like that. I also think that where Matthew tell Daisy about what he did. Hopefully, Daisy convinces him to tell James and possibly his parents just cuz he deserves to be happy.
3) I don’t think this one’s actually going to happen, but it makes my heart happy: So, we know an Italian Shadowhunter comes to the institute in CoI. What if, Italian Shadowhunter loses her entire family in a demon attack or something devastating (like Rafe) and she ends up in London not because it’s her travel year (like we assumed), but because Will and Tessa took her in after learning that she was an orphan. Anyway, she meets Sophie and Gideon one day and they hit it off very well and Thomas speaks in Italian with her and they all just bond over the shared sadness of losing someone *single tear*. Long story short, Gideon and Sophie end up adopting her (hence the adoption Cassie mentioned) because Sophie and Gideon do not deserve to lose their daughter for no reason. I have a whole complex story, but it would be the size of a fanfic, so I’m ending it there haha!
Hii, Ive been looking everywhere. Do you mind telling me what cc has said about the italian girl? A love interest? I got so confused bc you know the fandom hc all the want so i don't know what's real lol
Hi dear!
I totally understand, she says one thing and then we all go about making headcanons - and rightly so - but then often end up losing sight of what she said and what we ourselves proceeded to make up.
In regards to the Italian Shadowhunter, Cassie said she will come to London for her travel year and she will stay at the Institute. Because of this, we can safely assume she’s 18 - a year older than James and Matthew.
We know she’s from Rome but not much else yet. In regards to her name, Cassie said “it should be a funny surprise for those of you who read a lot of books” but also said her name is not Beatrice, the name that Italian fans immediately thought of. There are theories it might be Filomena because CC tagged it in a couple of Pinterest images, but we don’t know. As for her last name, we only know of the Malatesta family who was running the Rome Institute in 2007 when Malec visit Rome in Red Scrolls of Magic. There must be more families, so we can’t guess much there.
Cassie mentioned that she will be someone’s love interest.
Now, everyone seems to think she will be Matthew’s love interest, and I can certainly see why. He’s freewheeling and currently heartbroken. Cassie did say "a big twist” will come up in the love triangle. However, she also said that it wouldn’t resolve much of the conflict, and we also don’t know for sure if she will be an addition to that love triangle or just be romantically linked to somebody else. I mean, the possibilities are endless. She could fall in love with Anna for all we know. (And I would certainly love to see that!)
As an Italian fan who is obsessively invested in this series, I’m dying to know more. Would love to discuss theories, especially as we find out more from Cassie!
