My pictures didn’t come out very well, and these are after I got home in my sweaty, crumpled dress, but this is the outfit I wore for Wizarding Weekend’s City of Magic Ball. I made this 1940′s-style dress earlier this year, so I used it as the base of a sort of noir witch look.

The Debut

My DH got to debut Malfoy yesterday for #wizardingweekend and it was, if I may say so, a rousing success.  So, first he found his bestie, Snape (who is fantastic, BTW) and they actually hung out most of the day:

And he was asked to pose with a lot of fans of our favorite blond Death Eater, looking HOT AF IMHO:

The funniest part about it is that he was (adorably) legit surprised at all the female attention, like, “all these women want to have their picture taken with me wtf.”  Well, duh.  If you think I’m the only one attracted to Lucius Malfoy, you’re out of your Merlin-blessed mind (and I know I’m a very lucky lady).  

Don’t get me wrong: he loved it, because what dude wouldn’t? I pointed out to him that he now has three Harry Potter cosplay looks (Sirius, Lucius, Karkaroff) for next year to choose from.  It wasn’t even a question, he was like “Oh no, I’m going to be Malfoy again.”  Fine by me.

I recently decided to pass this coat on to someone else and donated it to a local second-hand shop. When it worked, it looked great, but I don’t really need something that makes my neck seem even shorter! Also, the awkwardly-shaped pockets drove me crazy.

Wizarding Weekend - Harry Potter Festival in Ithaca, NY | Traveler's Notebook by @laurenfairweather

My purchases from the vendors at Wizarding Weekend! Unfortunately, I have not been able to track down either vendor online. If I do, I’ll update this post with links. 

My favorite is this Horcrux necklace of Riddle’s diary and a basilisk fang. The fang actually fits into the hole through the middle of the diary! This vendor also had these cute price tags with images of the book covers.

(Obviously, the Pride and Prejudice book necklace is not Harry Potter-themed, but this was my favorite of the vendor’s bunch of different books, both fantasy stories and classics.)

The highlight of the past Wizarding Weekend for me wasn’t even an official event; it was Sacred Root Kava Bar’s dance party. I admit that I’d had a few drinks before arriving and was in the mood to dance, but where else would I hear both Ministry and a surprisingly good mashup of Gingham Style with the Ghostbusters theme song?

Realized I never posted my costume for the Tri-Wizard Ball at Wizarding Weekend. The music was not great, but it was a lot of fun to go out and dance with similarly kookily dressed folk.
