Roommates in Storybrooke || Belle and Lily

Usually Belle made it home before Lily, but tonight the endless amounts of paperwork never seemed to end and Belle had stayed at her desk, far into the night. Once she finished grading the last few papers, she gathered her things and made her way home.

She felt bad, usually she had dinner waiting for them both, but tonight she hadn’t left school until nine o’clock that evening. Finally unlocking the door to their apartment, Belle stepped inside.

"Lily?" She called out, dropping her keys in her purse. "I’m sorry I’m so late. I had so much work to catch up on."

‘Now, where do you think you’re going?’ Her father asks in his usual harsh tone, gruff from years of drinking.

Zelena turns back, her face reddened from tears “To see the one person who can help me find a family who wants me.” She purses her lips, taking a shaky breath, “The Wizard of Oz.” She turns back, shutting the door hard behind her. She brushes down her skirts and takes another calming breath before beginning her journey. She quickly makes her way to the edge of the forest, and doesn’t hesitate before entering into the thick clusters of trees, weaving her way through their thin trunks. The emerald city is just on the other side of this forest, if she can make it there she has a good chance of meeting the wizard; a good chance of finding an actual family.

The longer Zelena walks, the more she thinks about what had happened just minutes ago. Her father truly didn’t want her….Her father wasn’t even her real father. Zelena knew she was unhappy living with him, but how could everything have fallen apart so fast, how could he think that she was wicked? She can feel tears welling in her eyes once again. Not one person loves her, not one person wants her. Remember, she tells her self, no matter what you feel inside, always put on a good face. Even with her repeating her father’s words over and over in her head, she still cries, leaning back against a tree defeated, and sliding down to the forest’s floor. She buries her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking with soft sobs.

Crack!

The sound splits the otherwise silent air, and she raises her head from her hands, looking either way. “Helllo?” That was the distinct sound of someone stepping on a nearby stick. “Who’s there?” She calls, her voice still strained from crying.
