[Intro, Ramble #1]

“Don’t walk too far from the circus, Jackie.”

The words echoed through Jackie’s head with each step he took. He wondered how far was “too far” from the circus” exactly? It was never specified. Never a need to. He always followed the rules, stayed in line, kept the gluk boss happy. But sometimes Jackie just craved to break the rules. Even just by taking one extra step into “too far”. He should be grateful really...Given how strict the rules were for a mudokon like him, to be given the freedom to leave the fair, to wander...perhaps he should turn back. Go home to the bright lights and smokey fields...

His home wasn’t so bad after all, a busy steam fair with a small circus spot, he had his own trailer too, had its ups and downs...His shows were a hit but it was just when they reached certain spots in mudos where the circus was...unnecessary. The steam fair was far more popular to sligs in the area. They were mostly older folk and didn’t need entertainment from a clown like him; the machines and guns were enough. If Jackie even so much as showed his face he was shooed away by those trigger happy sligs. No place for muds! They don’t carry weapons or drive our trains! Only use is cleaning and target practice! No. He wasn’t a cleaner. Or a target. Or even a slave, What do those sligs know? And what ego is his gluk boss trying to stroke to agree with those comments? Any other hot spot where the circus was more popular and Jackie was treated like a star. Jackie STARburst. But not now. Not right now anyway...

Jackie was going to keep walking. Go “too far”. See what was beyond the fences and trailers and those sligs. “Let’s see how long those idiots take before they realize the great Jackstar is missing.”
