part of what i love so much about grocky as a ship (of sorts) is that it is inherently rooted in friendship. it is mostly a friendship even. personally, as someone on the arospec, all i want in life as far as companionship is a best friend but like in a queer way thats a little more committed. but non romantic! just a very special, very deep friendship that functions somewhat like a relationship in many traditional ways (living together, spending a lot of time together, making life decisions together, prioritizing each other over most ppl).
Grace and Rocky are like that, they are extremely close in a way that is more than usual for besties (in human culture at least) and its in a way that feels inherently queer. yet, to me, the movie doesnt ever push into romantic territory in any direction. it is simply not the point of the film. this is a movie about hope and love through friendship. and thats so cool! i love that it doesn't have to be romantic love to be that powerful! i love that it has the chance to slip into the expected pattern of romance being part of every happy ending, but it shows one jsut as happy without!
