Gilmore Girls
Sookie St James
I love Sookie so much. Cute, sweet, witty, supportive, honest, loving, neurotic & clumsy. She has an aunts love for Rory, and an often blind love for her best friend Lorelai. She’s a wife, mother, kickass chef & co-owner of The Dragonfly Inn.
From the start Sookie amuses me and at first she was just a loveable caricature. Soon she gained depth & showed she is a complicated but wonderful woman.
Sookie has some of the best lines on the show as well as a lot of the fun. I love that she was supportive of her friends/family but she did just believe everything Lorelai told her about the Gilmores. But in every other aspect in her life she did give the benefit of the doubt. Allowing other people to change her mind or work with her even if she wasn’t thrilled about it.
I love that she is so full of love. She starts out shy where dating is concerned but then she is the one to step up & ask Jackson out. She also is pragmatic in that she had always thought dating a long time before marriage was the way to go.
She follows her heart thought when everything felt right, she went with it.
Melissa McCarthy did such a wonderful job playing her. She’s one of my favourite characters of hers.
The writers scrambled for a way to make Sookie pregnant again in later seasons as MM was pregnant in real life so they came up with the absurd plot of Jackson not going through with the vasectomy...because he was a coward. Riiiight. Because that’s funny?
Anyways, Sookie was mad but forgave him. I suppose that’s in character...
I would have preferred Sookie to have challenged Lorelai more regarding her family history (like why stay away? Everyone deals with some annoying relatives but what did they do to make Lorelai keep Rory away??).....but I’m guessing the creators thought that would take away the over-the-top obsession & ‘love’ everyone had for the Gilmore girls.
Really, she’s a strong independent, smart woman so why wouldn’t she ask questions?
In Year in the Life I thought Sookie’s storyline was an after thought. A complete piece of trash to be honest. With MM being so busy, they could have had a line or two throughout the episodes say something like Every since Sookie won that Michelin star at the Dragonfly Inn...’ or talk about her & Jackson taking some sort of couples class together (insert joke about couples massage?)... preferably both.
The cameo was probably shot in a day or less. What the creators could have had instead was MM reading a touching letter, recorded at anytime (at their convenience)...then during the wedding have it as a voice over. Or something other than what we got. An audio recording probably would have been very quick. Then the cameo wouldn’t have felt so cheap.
They also could have shot a scene of Sookie by the gazebo. Then edited it to look like she was at the wedding. What we got was just laziness by the creators.
I love MM though (btw, her clothing line is super cute!) and I love Sookie. She’s one of the best parts of Gilmore Girls. ❤️

Season 1 Episode 15: Christopher Returns
George Clooney is an actor/filmmaker. In 2009, he was included on Time’s list of 100 Most Influential People. He also has won 2 Academy Awards for acting and producing. Brad Pitt is a actor/filmmaker. He is best known for having starred in Inglorious Bastards, Fight Club, Ocean’s 11, and Thelma And Louise. Billy Crudup is an actor. He has acted on Broadway, for which he was nominated 3 times for Tony Awards and won one for his role in The Coast Of Utopia. All three were considered major heartthrobs in their heyday
Gilmore Girls 03.07, “they shoot gilmores don’t they?”
the writers may have Sookie forgive Jackson for getting her pregnant without her consent, but I sure don’t :) :) :)
