He even received a Nobel Peace Prize in Literature for “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” Alanis Morissette is a singer songwriter. Her most successful and acclaimed album to date is “Jagged Little Pill” which includes such songs as “You Oughta Know,” “Hand In My Pocket,” and “Ironic.” Rolling Stone named her the Queen of Alt-Rock Angst. Dave Matthews is best known for starting and being the frontman of the band “Dave Matthews Band,” formed in 1991. Matthews won a Grammy while a part of the band. He also won a Grammy for his solo work in 2004. Buena Vista Social Club is an ensemble of Cuban musicians that put out an album 1997, which went on to have a great amount of success. The success of the album led them to do a performance in Amsterdam and New York... those performances were captured on film and turned into a documentary by a German director named Wim Wenders. Buena Vista Social Club’s success led to a revived interest in Cuban music and Latin American music in general. Enya is an Irish singer and songwriter. She is Ireland’s best selling solo artist. Her discography has sold over 75 million units worldwide.
