In the wangxian in post-songxuexiao yi idea: this may just be my wwx/xy shipper heart talking, but *would* there be a big kerfuffle between them? The only time WWX has actually shown to get angry at XY is once he learns about XXC, Song Lan, and the other dead civilians. Otherwise, it's just wary flirting and banter, even when XY starts fighting him. And LWJ would of course defend WWX if need be, but otherwise I think he tends to take WWX's lead in social interactions post-res.

it’s entirely possible! I think...Wei Wuxian’s response to Xue Yang initially is a bit colored by the vulnerability of the juniors and his own knowledge of his relative weakness in a physical one-on-one fight at the moment. Wei Wuxian is aware that Xue Yang is dangerous, at least in CQL verse where he...was around when Xue Yang just up and murdered a whole clan and was pretty obviously not concerned about it.

Which! Wei Wuxian can’t throw (that many) stones, but still is a reason to feel at the least wary. And then there is a distinct possibility that Xue Yang would escalate first out of a preemptive assumption that Hanguang-jun’s presence is, you know, not good for his life here.

But on the other hand it’s also entirely possible that they would just sidestep a little warily but banter/flirt-playfully (can’t see Lan Wangji loving that!) around each other, and then the whole thing about Wei Wuxian’s xiao-shishu comes up and I think that would...potentially wig Wei Wuxian out more. Because, you know, Xue Yang on his own is one thing but having Xue Yang in close proximity to one of the only remaining family attachments you have is...not comfortable.

all this being said: I feel like the probable end point here is a very, very awkward dinner with the distinct possibility that Xue Yang spends a solid chunk of it flirting with Wei Wuxian because it pisses Lan Wangji off.

(I think Xue Yang’s boyfriends are less threatened, in this case. though Song Lan still wishes he would stop.)

"#please tell me other people have noticed the size change" oooh, do you mean the size of the yellow sclera vs. just yellow iris? Because I was thinking about that earlier - admittedly I watched the show with crappy wifi, but I was sure his entire sclera was yellow at the beginning of e1 and during the fire car scene, and maybe some others I'm forgetting. I put it down to Crowley not caring about his snake-demon side showing at those moments (or else those effects are difficult to do full-time)

I mean the most overt example is of course the Odegra drive, you’d have to be blind to miss it there, they’re the goddamn size of mandarins, but his eyes do get smaller the longer he spends on earth.   in the garden, they’re entirely demonic. Bits of white start to slip in by the flood, and they do progressively get more and more human through the ages,  although any time he’s under stress they do backslide

Day #18

Call “Uncle” by @jaggedcliffs

Summary: Zuko and most of the Gaang are oblivious, Toph is having a blast, and Iroh is just enjoying the whole situation. Or, how the Fire Nation officials gave up on calling Iroh anything other than "Uncle".

My notes: I was trying to keep this list solely VLD but I recently read this fic and despite it’s quick read it really stuck around with me. ATLA is one of my absolute favorite series and the main reason for that is the characters. Zuko is hands down my favorite for a number of reasons but one in particular is his relationship with Uncle Iroh and how that grows as Zuko grows up and realizes how much his uncle means to him.

This little piece is set after the war when Zuko is Fire Lord and is taken from a very third person outsider perspective as a glimpse into the Fire Nation palace and its royal family. I don’t want to spoil too much but it’s just an absolutely lovely little piece that’s full of heart just like ATLA and is a pick me up for a guaranteed smile.

wip of that plushie i was talking about last night. he’s about 17 inches tall. can’t work on much more of him without going out of town to buy more materials. i guess i could buy fabric online if i need to but i would prefer to see it in person.

haven’t even started on thor for the same reason. his face is drawn up and printed out ready to iron on but that’s it.

i wish we had stores here. it’s really frustrating when my only option is walmart and they have virtually no craft department here. :/ and i can’t get out of town but once every four months or so.

I feel like the LoT writers are trying to make Snart into a Harrison Wells-type character. Except Wells was invented for the show to be a cover for Eobard, and has now become a way to introduce other characters and plot points (Jesse and a way to save Iris), not to mention Harry, and somewhat HR, became fan favourites. On the other hand Snart is a character with decades of comic book history, with important ties to the Rogues and Flash(es), and the writers are throwing that all out the window :/

I hear you. I was actually just thinking about how I need to work harder to be more like the fans of Tom C who are just happy to see their fave on screen, even if it’s not always their fave “version” of him.

There’s definitely a difference though, and some of my bitterness comes more from how Legends took Len and Mick both from a show where they were villains and have a long history and an important role to play in the general mythos / comics history and deprived us of seeing that story ever come to fruition by what they did with the characters.

I’m glad we still get to see some of Len in whatever form he’s in, because when I step back, I actually do enjoy all of his appearances, even if I don’t necessarily enjoy the broader plot points or episodes, I still enjoy him. From Doomworld!Len to the Past!Len, and even the hallucination!Len and speedforce!Len (I could take or leave the hologram!Len though). The fact that there’s already so many versions should be telling though, it’s kind of a joke. Scratch that, it is a joke, a fandom-wide one:

Because I'm predictable and I'm still struggling to write my sequel fic: Wei Wuxian and Xue Yang

ahhh yes another Fave that I always crave more of. so much potential. rich with possibilities so far tragically underexploited by fandom

Cons:

I think my main two problems here are 1. logistical and 2. character-based. 

The first is the issue of how. In novel canon they don’t overlap really at all; in CQL canon they do overlap as far as being around at the same time but getting them in the same space remains somewhat logistically difficult, though Xue Yang does have a large chunk of handy blank “what were you doing here, anyway” space in his timeline. 

The bigger issue is character-based, specifically the fact that Wei Wuxian has, like, some morals. Not necessarily all of the morals and he doesn’t on principle disapprove of killing people, but it’s very contextual, he requires some justification and I do not think that a) Xue Yang would try to justify himself or b) that Wei Wuxian would find Xue Yang’s justification very compelling. 

When I’ve tried to write it this is always the problem I run into, which is to say the “but why is Wei Wuxian doing this” one. 

Pros:

But. but. I mean, on the shallow end the sheer delight I get out of how much Xue Yang thinks Wei Wuxian is hot shit, and he does legitimately think he’s hot shit! Xue Yang’s list of people he respects is short (pretty much three people long, max, one of whom is himself), but he respects Wei Wuxian. sort of, as much as he respects anyone. 

and when there’s something (or someone) that Xue Yang wants, he’s not shy about going after it.

I think my favorite incarnations of this are set during the Burial Mounds era. which one, you may ask, and the answer is kind of “either, or both.” the mental image of Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian crossing paths when the latter is at some of his darkest, lowest moments...it plays into the thing about their characters where they are dark-mirror parallels to each other, but make it sexy. Xue Yang pulling Wei Wuxian down into the fun dark with him and Wei Wuxian is going to have a good time doing it.

Xue Yang’s coming out of it with no regrets if possibly some physical damage; Wei Wuxian’s probably coming out of it with all of them.
